slow down, we need to take those in parts:

- can Yao resist marrying the heir of the empire (who is his half sister)

doubtful. To be fair, Arvis didn’t know she was his half sister at the time so should not be a reason to resist. Can Yao resist marrying the heir to the empire who he suspects he the amnesiac wife of another lord (and then turns out to be his half sister)? Also doubtful but a more fair comparison

- and can he keep offing his children without people discovering it?

Unlike Arvis, Yao can off his children. But with his legitimacy coming from his supposed regency for said children, it’s a little bit awkward. Workable, though, if he consolidates power efficiently enough, I guess. But shaky.

Not necessarily? It’s gameover when Manfroy puts the Lopt book in Julius’ hands, rather. Yao has the advantage over Arvis that he probably wouldn’t underestimate Manfroy.

THE PERFECT CONSORT JING EMOJI, A SNOWFLAKE IN HELL. Um I dunno the thing is I’m really interested in Consort Jing’s hypothetical youth, as like, a hothead stubborn doctor with a consuming loyalty to the Lin family and Consort Chen in particular and very little regard for anything else, including her own happiness ……. I guess I would love any kind of AU that involved disgrace and exile for the Lin clan rather than extermination, where Consort Jing has an actual motive to work her way into the Emperor’s good graces sooner; still something where Lin Shu appears to have died or vanished, but when MCS returns to the city Prince Jing is already the favorite prince and his mother Empress’s rival… uh… and I guess some kind of power struggle ensues between Consort Jing and MCS over whether to adopt his plan (manipulate the emperor into revoking sentences) and her plan (MURDER EVERY PERSON). Maybe ideally also something about how her hunting Hua spies behind the scenes actually pushes them into MCS’s arms as allies of convenience, lol. Something something MCS still has this nostalgic fury at the Emperor whereas Consort Jing just considers him beneath contempt, as she always has. Who’s right? Nobody!!

Besides, like a tiger, Arvis recognises his agency and correspondingly responsibility for what he does

I didn’t know tiger were so responsible actually!! XD

(and yeah that’s definitely a quality Arvis has that Yao lacks. Also Arvis isn’t willing to kill his son and would never have orchestrated his sister-wife’s death.)

Well Manfroy’s manipulation are so damn easy because no one seems really up to that level of social skill though. So from that point of view Yao would also have an easy time. The quest is how he handles the Lopt cult though.

what is The Dragon Prince show you have been reblogging? an animated series? it looks intriguing.

Recent animated series from netflix, creative team shares people with the people who made Avatar the Last Airbender and it shows in the nuance of the writing and characterisation. World building more generic fantasy though, but pretty nice all the same. One big con is the low value of the animation budget makes it a bit stilted. Highly recommended otherwise.
