Trip To Whitby
On Thursday, I went to Whitby with my Mam and Dad. Whitby is a pretty little seaside town in North Yorkshire. It is the perfect location for a day trip, with plenty of places to eat and drink. Unfortunately my mam is having major difficulty with her hip, she is in constant pain and her mobility is restricted, so we were unable to go for a long walk round the town, something we would normally do when we go there.
To begin with we went to Bothams Tearooms, Bothams is particularly popular with the older generations, it is tucked away in a more local area of the town, My dad has a great affection for this place because he used to visit these tearooms with his own mother and father as a child. Walking into Bothams it is like stepping back in time, the old counter from the 20′s still stands and all the waitresses are dressed traditionally with black dresses with little white pinifores and matching hats! I always think of Bothams as a step down from Betty’s, you still get the quintiessential english experience but without the huge price tag! Downstairs below the tearooms, there is a huge bakery, Bothams is known to be a bakers and they sell a huge selection of delicious cakes and desserts.
Anyway, we chose to have the lunchtime special which included a pork lunch with a choice of soup or a dessert. Naturally I chose to have a dessert with my lunch. I chose a delicious homemade strawberry cheesecake, oh my god it tasted amazing!
Following lunch, we went for a little drive round the town, before leaving to head over to Robin Hood’s Bay. Robin Hood’s Bay consists of a village at the top of a hill, and at the bottom of the hill there is a small bay with sandy beaches. It is a very picturesque spot, a place where you get the opportunity to take lots of pretty photographs and enjoy the stunning scenery. The weather was lovely, the sun was beating down and you could see out to sea for miles. We sat and enjoyed the scenery for a while, but the place was heaving with people so we decided to head off and find somewhere quieter to go for a drink!
Next we drove along to Ruswarp, a village that has a beautiful riverside cafe, complete with umbrellas and picnic tables on the lawn. The sun was still shining so we decided to order a small alcoholic beverage! My dad got a black sheep beer, and my mam and I ordered a glass of Pimms! It was just lovely to sit, chat and watch the world go by, by the river. The people sat at the table next to us had a beautiful ruby cavalier king charles spaniel. He was so well behaved and completely adorable!
After we left Ruswarp, we started the journey home, stopping at another pub in a wee little village. This pub was one of my dad’s haunts from when he goes walking and I have to say it wasn’t really my cup of tea! It smelt foisty and was full of old men.......very much a LOCAL pub. Everyone turned round to stare at us when we all walked in and I felt very uncomfortable! Having said this I enjoyed my drink of Archers and Lemonade and it was a nice break from the long drive back home!
So yeah I had a lovely little trip out but as soon as I got home I went straight to bed, and pretty much stayed in bed the entire evening and into the night.
