Luis Reyes, lead on print, 8.5in x 11in, 2021
Luis Reyes is a Rutgers University | Newark student sketched on paper with the use of my non-dominate hand (left hand). It came out a lot better than initially anticipated.

Meet some of my wonderful professors! We've learned so much under their instruction and guidance. I remember starting the GD program with absolutely no knowledge of things like typography and Illustrator. I had never even heard of InDesign before. I've come pretty far 😝 Thank you for everything! 💖 . . . . . #gdphenomena #acmgd2017 #rutgers #rutgersnewark #acmgd #graphicdesign

Capstone 2020 #RutgersNewark #GraphicDesign #datavisualization #RacialDisparity #LegalizeMarijuana #EndRacism #endprofiling The BREACH #thebreach Abstract: While many states have legalized marijuana use for varying purposes, today it is still illegal in New Jersey. The Breach focuses on data from the last ten years in New Jersey that demonstrate an increase in arrests and incarceration for marijuana, and a stark disparity in the statistics in the black white versus communities. The Mediums: *The Disparity #TheDisparity A poster series visualizes the data of marijuana arrests In New Jersey, emphasizing the bleak disparity between arrests in the black compared to the white community. The posters also provide a broader view of arrest totals in NJ between 2013 and 2017. *The Deets #TheDeets A booklet provides information about marijuana legalization in the U.S., including which states have legalized it, decriminalized it, or where it remains entirely illegal. It explains the charges that someone might face if arrested for marijuana possession, raising awareness. *The Heard #TheHeard A video further expands on the effects of possession charges, and incarceration on an individual’s life. This piece offers a more personal perspective on the topic, giving voice to those who have been harshly/unnecessarily punished for possession of marijuana for personal use. Painting Workshop-DAY 1:
Today in class I learned about On Kawara, a Japanese Conceptual Artist born in Japan in 1932. He moved to NYC. He is most well known for his Date Paintings. After he pulled out of publicly displaying his art he started a 30 year project: he was committed to documenting his “ongoing existence with as little extraneous comment or emotive expressions possible,” also rooting from Buddhism.
He created boxes which represented each day he was alive. Inside he placed sketches, photos of himself, and newspapers relevant to the day. Painted graphically on top was the date. Over the 30 years of this, only slight changes were made to the paintings.
On’s Date Paintings is one of the most long-lasting day to day series of artworks !!!!!
This form of expression came from On Kawara having been greatly affected by the bombings in Japan of WWII, making him question the moral values behind human society.
****On Kawara concentrated to express concept over aesthetic form far more than ever before!!
