FAVORITE DUOS: JAY HALSTEAD AND ADAM RUZEK.
☹️☹️☹️
what would be damn cool is if you had jay and adam kidnapped cuz that would kill two birds with one stone...
1. you can deepen adam and jay's "friendship" and give them both more screen time together
2. you can also deepen kim and hailey's "friendship" and keep the screen time together
how do you think hailey (especially looking back on 7x09 losing her control) and kim would be freaking out 😅
This would definitely be an interesting situation that could give us some really cool dynamics. But I also feel that capturing Jay and Adam together would be a bad idea. 😂 Hear me out! Adam is not very patient, and his recklessness and lack of patience have put either himself or someone else at risk. We saw that in 9x15 when Makayla was taken. We also saw that when Kim was taken. I think Jay and Adam would be an interesting dynamic to explore, but they could also be a chaotic duo. They don't really have anything in common other than their stubbornness. Jay is the kind of person that would sit still and wait for the team to rescue him. Adam is the kind of person who wouldn't sit still and would try to do everything he can to be set free. And every time he fails, he gets more agitated and reckless. Jay would try to pull rank, but Adam, stubbornly won't listen. It could just be me, but I feel like they would just drive each other nuts. 😳
But if kidnapping Adam and Jay together would mean more Kim and Hailey scenes, then I'm down for it. Ever since S5, I've been wanting some sort of friendship between the two women of Intelligence, and if kidnapping both their love interests is what finally gets us that friendship, then that's what I want.
Wait, what sneak peek?????!!!

“You don’t seem like yourself tonight.” - halzek
Its a coincidence, more than anything, Jay tells himself as he lingers at Molly’s hand around a half empty beer glass. Its a coincidence that they seem to be the last ones to leave, that the rest of the squad trickles home with excuses and apologies, promises for the morning. Its a coincidence that after everyone else has made their way out the door, Adam Ruzek is left next to him every time, nearly elbow to elbow at the bar, cracking jokes and debating players on their favorite teams, talking odds of playoffs or championships.
Tonight is no different, in some respects. Hailey says good night, offers Jay a little half hug, promises that she’ll be in early tomorrow to catch up on the paperwork she agreed to do for him in exchange for a favor, and Adam is the one left next to him. But its different somehow too, because Adam has been quiet all night, hasn’t cracked a smile. Jay tells himself he noticed this because he’s a detective, because its his job to notice things. Its not really the truth.
“So what’s up, Ruz?” Jay offers with the same lighthearted tone he’d use with anyone else, offering him a chance- an out so they don’t have to talk about whatever it is that’s bothering Adam, because Jay’s not really the person Adam goes to, and there’s no reason to expect that to change now.
Adam turns to look at Jay like he’s sort of surprised to see him there, like he thought he was alone, “not much. Been a day.” Adam shrugs his shoulders and turns back to his glass. Jay’s chest clenches, because there’s so clearly something wrong, something eating at Adam, and even if Jay’s not the person Adam goes to, if Jay’s being honest with himself, he wishes that he was.
They sit in silence for a little longer, because Jay can’t muster the courage to try again, and Adam seems to have forgotten Jay’s presence at his side again, like his elbow doesn’t bump into Jay’s whenever he moves to lift his glass to his lips.
“You off tomorrow?” Adam finally breaks the silence, but it’s nothing of substance of course, a filler, something to throw into this vacuum growing between them.
“Look man, I don’t know what’s going on, but if you want to talk, I’m here…” Jay finally responds instead, dropping a firm hand on Adam’s shoulder, trying to assure himself this is a friendly gesture and nothing more.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Adam furrows his brow, like he doesn’t know what Jay’s getting at, even though they both know that’s not true.
“You don’t seem like yourself tonight,” Jay shrugs, ducks his head as he feels the beginning of a hot blush spreading across the bridge of his nose, suddenly feeling like he’s prying into something he should have, playing a hand he should have folded.
Jay expects defensiveness, expects Adam to lash out, or at the very least insist that he’s fine, that he’s okay. That whatever it is Jay’s noticing is out of his own imagination. Instead, Adam sort of deflates. “I don’t know, it was a rough case, I can’t get her out of my head,” he admits softly.
Jay runs his hand over his jaw, not sure what to say now that Adam’s opened up to him, “drinking won’t help,” he nods to Adam’s glass, and he knows because he’s been there. He reaches into his back pocket, pulls out his wallet and leaves a few bills on the bar top. “Come on, lets get out of here.”
“And go where?” Adam asks, reluctant, downing the rest of his glass, because he’s still sort of hoping to drown the feelings with liquor instead.
“My place, or yours,” Jay shrugs, “or just a walk. Whatever. But sitting here and moping isn’t going to make you feel any better, and if you end up with a hangover tomorrow you’ll only feel worse.”
Adam pauses for a moment, hesitates, and Jay wonders if he’s gone too far, if Adam’s going to push him away, but he doesn’t, just slides off the bar stool and pulls on his jacket. “A walk sounds okay,” he admits, that same sort of soft tone to his voice, and Jay can’t help but notice the way Adam’s knuckles brush against the back of his hand as he walks. It feels like a promise.
