The best cover ever

ONE-SHOT REVIEW:  RVLS cover “Heathens”, the latest release by Twenty One Pilots. As far as covering popular bands goes, a lot of musicians hit YouTube with contrived covers, just hoping to cash in on the band they’re covering’s popularity. It’s easy to be tacky or over-the-top, but this isn’t the case with RVLS’ cover.

This manages to be darker than the original (an already dark song), in part thanks to Kalie Wolfe’s sludgy-yet-melodic tones and in part thanks to the ominous production flying around both the foreground and background. In fact, the production in this is a good homage to the original song, while still being its own beast. In other words, it’s what you might want from a cover: The spirit of the original, with its own flourishes.
