Okay, you could do this. There wasn’t anything to it. Just need to...actually say it. And manage to tear him away from everyone long for you to to say it. Two steps. Two very big steps, but you could do it.
“Nope - nope, can’t do it!” you muttered to yourself, pinching the bridge of your nose. You were psyching yourself up and there was absolutely no need for it, but that’s what nerves were for, right? Nerves and anxiety.
“Everything all right?” you jumped at the sound of Ryan’s voice from behind you. He placed a hand on your shoulder, brows furrowed in concern. Damn it, this was not helping you at the moment!
“Uh, yeah. I’m fine...I think,” you muttered the last bit, glancing down and tugging at the sleeves of your jacket.
“You sure? You know you can talk to me if you need to, right?” He could see right through you. You chewed the inside of your cheek, mulling the consequences over in your head but after a moment, you decided it was time to get it out into the universe.
“I like you,” you blurted out, eyes going wide as soon as you said it. You hadn’t meant to say it like that. “I mean, I like you - a lot - and definitely as more than a friend, and I understand if you don’t feel the same way, I was just talking with the Doctor and she said I should go for it and I kind of didn’t want to tell you but I just had to get it out in the open and -,”
“(Y/N),” he interrupted, and you snapped your mouth shut, glancing down, “I like you, too. Glad you said something before granddad tried to.”
“Wait, what?” You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. Ryan liked you back?
“Yeah, I wanted to tell you, I just didn’t know if you liked me back or anything. Gramps said he was gonna do it for me if I didn’t do it first, so really glad you beat both of us to it.”
“Oh,” you said quietly, cheeks heating up the slightest as you realized he had been in the same predicament as you. “So...what now?”
“We could start with a date. Would probably be nice to just sit and talk with each other instead of running for our lives for once.” You laughed, nodding and giving him a smile.
“I’d love that.”

King James had more game than you. Hell, he was so smooth it physically hurt at times, even if it was completely obvious what he was trying to do. Always made you wonder, though, why couldn’t you be that...suave around Ryan?
You could barely spend two minutes alone with him without saying something stupid!
You shouldn’t have this much conflict going on inside your head when you’re trying to help save innocent “witches” from execution, but you couldn’t help it. Your mind was in a rut, and that rut was Ryan Sinclair, and when the Doctor pulled you aside for a moment, you knew you were screwed.
“Listen, I’ve been doing this...dating, I guess you could say - I’ve been married way too many times, still am married, I think - but I could help you out with Ryan,” she said, giving you a soft smile. You blinked, briefly wondering if you had been that obvious.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” you said quickly, probably too quickly. She raised a brow, smirking.
“Oh, really? I certainly don’t claim to be an expert but you’ve been glaring at King James like he’s just kicked your cat! Oh, wait, no - don’t want you think he actually kicked your cat. Please don’t think he’s kicked your cat, (Y/N),” she rambled, moving her hands about and you shook your head, stopping her movements.
“My cat’s in a different time, Doctor, so Mr. Scraps is perfectly fine. But, uh, yeah... I may be a tad bit envious of King James and his ability to flirt seamlessly.” The Doctor snorted - actually snorted - at your admission, before quickly righting herself.
“Okay, you see, he’s a king - he’s got to be that way! Besides, Ryan likes you, not him, and I reckon Ryan much prefers you as you are than as...King James.” The Doctor glanced over to where Ryan and the King were, where the King was busy showing off something or the other, that looked to be pretty uncomfortable and cringe-worthy.
“Point taken. You’ve got two thousand years or so of experience, any advice?” The Doctor thought for a moment before a grin broke out on her face, a grin that scared you. “Doctor...”
“You could tell him how you feel, and I’d do it before I get around to it.” She left you with that, wondering how the hell you were gonna manage telling Ryan how you really feel, or risk having the Doctor awkwardly explain how you feel.
Damn, she was good.
