#OnThisDay in @chicagocubs history ▸ The Cubs pick up their 10,000 National League victory* in an away game against the @coloradorockies.
The 10-inning contest at Coors Field features a ninth inning where the Cubs score 2 runs to take the lead, and then promptly give-up a run in the bottom half of the frame blowing the lead...
Geovany Soto’s single to left starts off the 10th and his pinch-runner, Mike Fontenot, scores (what will become the winning run) on Ryan Theriot’s single giving the Cubs a 7-6 lead. Carlos Mármol then picks up the save in the bottom half of the 10th earning the Cubs win number 10K.
*NOTE: the franchise’s 10,000 win (which includes the 1870-75 seasons when the White Stockings played for the National Association, before joining the NL in 1876) occurred on June 3, 2007.
