Hey out of curiosity.... when you have Dissociative Episodes how do you like..... do things? Bc I cant even do like simple school stuff and I just wanted to see if maybe you had a method to work even when going through an episode???? My grades and life are kinda suffering because of all my mental health issues stacking up and I just really need advice rn 😓
I’m not in school anymore because of my own mental health issues, however I remember that I was dissociating or switched most of the time I was at school.
I’m always dissociating a little bit, the few times I wasn’t I got really sick, but at school it was very base line with only a few incidents. When I had an episode, I’m lucky enough that my “friends” know I’m a bit off so they just go with the flow and my family understands that I don’t do things without genuine reason so they would pick me up if needed.
Luckily, I could ground myself a little bit since people were around and if I couldn’t focus in class then I’d just focus on myself in that moment if I could. Learning coping and grounding strategies can be very difficult but extremely beneficial.
Not every one of those basic suggested ones online will work so you may have to just think “What makes me feel safe and whole” then have/use that.
For me, I found a sweater that keeps me feeling safe. There’s also the smell of Yellow Mustard that knocks me out of a trip reasonably well usually. Sometimes just food that could be used for stimming helps. Having something to ground and/or stim with with you at all times could be very beneficial.
If it’s possible, talk to someone you know would understand and try to come up with things that would help. Studying yourself is the best way to discover what does and doesn’t work for you.
