Photo 1: Before the massacre of my head took place. Photo 2: The choppy ass aftermath and painful hair dryer burn. Photo 3: The color. Which is damn near close to what I walked into the salon with minus the blonde. Photo 4: The color I WANTED. Photo 5: Beeline honey is the color my hair was after lifted. Y'all, she lightened my hair THAT much, just to cover it back up with brown. 😩😭😒
Don’t get me wrong. I loved seeing excited Maggie and supportive Maggie (which I already knew because Maggie is literally the most supportive, amazing woman). But literally that’s all we’ve gotten to see? We’ve seen tiny glimpses of her. Like tiny glimpses. You know what else they all had in common? All involving Kara or Alex’s storyline and not an independent one of her own like someone deserves to have on a show where they’re a Main. Goddamn. Character. I fucking loved the little things we saw in this ep, but good god give me more than her just being a prop to Alex please. Please.
To those trying to demonize Maggie for arresting Lena Luthor on tonight’s episode. I have a couple of things I would like to point out.
One: Maggie Sawyer is a cop. A detective. She’s doing her job. The evidence is there in front of her to inform her that Lena committed a crime. Even if it’s only one piece of evidence, it’s enough to know that Lena could be extremely dangerous. Arresting her is for the safety of the people/aliens in National City right now. It’s getting her off the streets and then the rest of the investigation can end up proving her innocent or guilty. Plus Kara’s interrupting her doing that job, she can’t just let it slide because it’s the sister of her girlfriend.
Two: Lilian Luthor is the reason so many people died in Maggie’s safe space. If she’s a little tense, a little snappish? Can you really blame her? Lilian Luthor has escaped, the Kryptonite heart has been returned to Metallo and CADMUS is still at large. In the grand scheme of things, as someone who likes Aliens and fights for them as well as protects against them, I think it only fair to cut Maggie Sawyer some slack. Not that anyone seems to be able to do that at all. But, I digress.
Three: It has nothing to do with your OTP. That’s it. That’s all I have to say on that matter. It. Has. Nothing. To. Do. With. Your. OTP.
You know what really bothers me though?
Maggie has this deep moment where she talks about how she came out, she talks about the pain. She talks about being outed against her will, to a father that literally kicked her out of her own home and left her scrambling. Left her to be taken in by her aunt (luckily, if not she could’ve been entirely homeless or worse). And that’s it.
She told the story, and then she fucking was the one left apologizing. Like yes okay apologize for getting snappy, but she should not- SHOULD NOT have to ever apologize for what happened to her. It’s not her fault that it still hurts. It’s not a wound that’s just going to heal. Like that’s not how it works. I hate that they just glossed over that like it’s no big deal. Like it doesn’t deserve validation and care. Like Maggie doesn’t deserve to be shown love and care and respect just as much as Alex or any other character on this show does.
Like being kicked out of your house when you’re 14 for being gay, a very real issue, doesn’t deserve to be addressed as more than just a tragic backstory spill to be heard and moved on from.
It bothers me.
I’m sorry, but even only being 23, I grew up having to dig my way through so much to find real representation actually ON SCREEN. And I don’t care if you think they’re not “fresh” because the actors and characters are not in their teens or early twenties. I would still rather see them getting fully fleshed out, backstories, episodes that are supposed to be centric to them being centric to them and more than five minutes of screen time if they’re supposed to be main characters.
I like Lena, I’m okay with SuperCorp, I’m not cool with having a beautiful, healthy, interesting, canon w|w relationship and an amazing qpoc woman on my screen taking a backseat to either of those things.
Give Lena her own, separate episode for this. Don’t take away from what they said they were giving us. Not to mention James Olsen deserves better just saying.
I’m so fucking tired of seeing people attack other people for using they/them pronouns for whatever reason. Gender isn’t sexuality, full stop. Y’all want other people to accept you, then turn around and fuck it up by turning into the intolerant assholes yourselves. Practice what you preach or fuck off.
Ya know, it’d be one thing if we could actually have part of the show be seeing M’gann on Mars rallying like minded White Martians and actually creating a rebel resistance. But the fact that it’s so obvious they had her disappear to just finish her storyline basically and not have to deal with having her in the show anymore? That bothers me so fucking much. She deserved better.
