Alrighty let's talk about that one scene in "The Beauty Inside."
For context, I'm talking about the kdrama where FL changes faces every month. Main couple is cute and all but the side couple seems to be all people care about, and for good reason.
RYU EUN-HO MY BELOVED is applying to seminary and he is a very good Catholic boy (shout out my Catholics and to good Catholic representation in media at least so far)
KANG SA-RA MY DARLING EVIL GIRL is a big boss baddie who is really good at business™️ and doesn't have any friends, but she inevitably falls for Eun-ho because who wouldn't.
BUT EUN-HO WANTS TO BE A PRIEST
IRL, I tell people that dating a boy even thinking about seminary is a recipe for heartbreak, because it is. And in this drama it's not just heartbreaking for Sa-ra but also for ME BECAUSE I HAVE TO WATCH IT
anyway Sa-ra is very sad but she is also a business woman and so she decides to pray about it (YAY PRAYER)
and guys, I'm serious when I say that this scene was one of the most beautiful, most real, most profound scenes i have ever watched.
Sa-ra starts off her prayer with the qualifier that she doesn't have a religion, and that she isn't even sure God exists. But just in case he does, she goes on:
she asks God to please please please let her have Eun-ho. Eunho told her he was going to give himself to God, but Sa-ra practically begs God to give him to her. Of course, she's still a little prideful, so she insists that this is not her begging but rather a negotiation; she offers to give an enormous amount of money to the Church if God will give Eun-ho to her.
of course we can't buy God's favors, that's not how it works, but it is still a good thing to give alms. (especially since it is implied that this is something Eun-ho taught her) Additionally, even though we know this is not how it works, many of us still pray like this. It's a very relatable moment, and there have been many times where I have made all sorts of promises to God in exchange for something I want desperately.
This moment is so good because it shows just how much she cares about Eun-ho. She not only likes him but respects his decision and religion enough to go to the God he loves to ask for him, instead of going to Eun-ho and asking him to choose her over God.
I haven't finished the show yet, so it's possible she does do that later, but it still doesn't invalidate the fact that her first reaction is to pray.
I’ll risk it all for Ryu Eunho
