midori doesnt even need to tell kanata. he knows when midori has particularly bad days or starts worrying a lot more than usual, and so he takes him to a nearby lake in town, or to the fountain in the courtyard if it’s during school hours, or even just a nearby flower field with a small pond in the corner and they watch the water and he lets midori lean against him and allow himself to vent to someone’ll who’ll listen and not try to intervene or tell him to be positive, but just tell him that he’s okay and needed and he’s not doing anything wrong. midori fiddles with the sea creature plush he received from kanata to calm himself and it brings a smile to kanata’s face. they sit in a semi-quiet understanding, and even if the next day or the next hour, it’s back to midori being annoyed at kanata’s shenanigans and sighing at ryuseitai, he knows he has kanata and kanata cares for him.

okay, what if at the school festival or w/e, midori’s looking around at the club booths bc it beats being dragged around by taichou n that’s when he notices the handicrafts club n a bunch of girls n guys from the normal course are “ooo”ing and “aaa”ing over shu’s intricate clothes bc they’ve heard so much abt him, n tsumugi’s also being praised for some of his scarves n pillows n embroidery n stuff but mika’s kinda shadowed bc his plushs n meager things arent as “cool” but midori sees mika’s plushs n immediately thinks of them as he does w mascot things n bounds up to them w his sparkle eyes (u kno the ones) n he’s like “uwaa these look so cute! they’re soo odd-looking that u just can’t help but like them! [looks up at mika] what are they?” n mika’s just so stunned bc What also bc, isnt this that one depressed first year he’s seen around before? he’s this excited over smth mika made? but it makes him surprisingly a bit happy n he’s just like “aa.. i like plushs, see, so i tried ta make some a my own, n patch some up bc creepy-cute things are nice, y’know?” n he’s just kinda blushy bc wow this first year guy is pretty, n he looks so happy bc of smth mika did...
what if Midori and mika meet bc he walks outside his store to try n feed the stray cat that frequents the area near the shop n he finds mika playing w the cat right outside his door n a bit to the left n mikas startled by Midori approaching him n he tilts his head for a sec then goes "nnah, is this yer cat?? 'm sry! he jus' looked rly soft n cute so I-" but as mikas just looking up at midori, Midori just thinks that mika resembles the cat so much what w the lil head tilt n the heterochromatic eyes n the lil fang n scruffy hair n he's just like "..........cute"
Bonus: he's like "a-ah, that's not my cat, no, ur fine..." n mikas so relieved he's not bothering Midori n they both feed the cat some peas !
