The FFXIV community has always been regarded as a great community that welcomes new players and is tight knit. However with the arrival of a popular WoW streamer, we forgot ourselves for a whole day basically.
I didn't even know Asmongold before Saturday. I was playing on an alt on Cactuar and I saw people shouting in chat about this dude and I was confused. Then I saw him being followed by a MASS of people and I looked his Twitch stream up. I don't find his mispronunciation of the names funny and he's not even that interesting to me.
HOWEVER: this does not give anyone the right to harass someone. It was annoying to see people blocking the NPCs from his view. Also, the amount of people complaining about him being here...why? Is everyone not allowed to enjoy the game? Stop being an elitist, you don't own this game. Just because you're jealous he has a following doesn't mean you can just take it out on him. Plus, it doesn't matter if you horde him on stream, he turned names off so no one knows who you are anyway. Yeah, I saw my character pass him on screen because I was in his general vicinity at one point and tuned in to see if I was there and I was! But my name wasn't and no one cared that I was there. They aren't focusing on anyone but Asmongold. The people spamming emotes and jumping around aren't cute or funny. No one even knows who you are.
Not only does it affect him, people playing the game experience heavy lag and ridiculous wait times just to get into the server. And who cares about the influx of WoW players??? We should be happy to have more players jumping in. I for one have been helping out the new players I get out in dungeons with because I want them to enjoy the game like I and so many others have.
Please FFXIV community, we're better than this, but Twitch saw a gross side of us on Saturday. Let's show them what kind of great community we are for real.
I’m reviewing as someone who has knowledge of OG anime (watched parts of) and also Ares no Tenbin.
Here it is, some thoughts (maybe a rant?) under the cut. Not spoiler-free, by the way.
I feel that these are the things that come out good:
Balancing the appearances of the Ares-only and also what I OG characters. They managed to balance out the number of characters in InaJapan, inclusive of the 5 extra additions.
Combined Hissatsus of both old and new characters, some of my favorite examples are:
Kamakura Dimension (Mizukamiya, Tatsuya & Nishikage, I absolutely love this Hissatsu, sadly it was only used once)
The Asura (Endou, Saginuma & Nishikage, tho this outcome is kinda weird)
Ggg Senjou no Aria (Aphrodi, Kira & Iwato)
Penguins the God & Devil (Haizaki & Kira, if you’d consider Kira as an OG (dead) char).
Hyokketsu no Gungnir (Shirou & Atsuya, leading to third pt)
Hyokketsu no Gungnir, perhaps an answer to OG Wolf Legend but now with both brothers together.
Characters have developed from Ares to Orion (e.g Our Ares trio to where they are now, Atsuya to now work with others, etc).
Most of the new characters (also other teams) are pretty compelling, some are...just ok I guess. But my reactions to them are mainly positive!
Also, characters faking foul play. That was insanely fun to see lmao, thanks Mizukamiya for the idea.
Now onto the downsides:
Team balance. As much as I like number 1 of the good side, it comes with this downside.
4 goalkeepers? (Thanks for the comment, Saginuma)
Many forwards...honestly out of the 5 extras, the only defender that came in was Mizukamiya. There are 3 forwards (Aphrodi, Atsuya, Kozoumaru) and 1 goalkeeper (Norika).
The balance on the defenders' side has been lacking and with Shirou’s departure, it goes for the worse as the number of defenders is only enough for a starter team.
Saginuma didn’t have a debut as a solo keeper, either (Might as well replace him with Norika...not a good opinion, I know.), Nishikage...not much. I understand putting Endou in and I absolutely like him, but sometimes it might be good for him to be on the bench for the other two/three goalies to shine.
There’s a need for more successful defense-based Hissatsus. I absolutely like Ice Ground, the Wall, and Spinning Fence, but as far as I remember, if you compare their appearances to the strikes, you’ll kind of see it. Zone of Pentagram didn’t even succeed! But then it’s a good sign that you’re doing more shots so I guess that’s the take.
More Hissatsus in relation to point number 2 for the positive side! Or that’s just me, but I’ll like seeing more characters working with each other, tho honestly with 50 episodes that’s gonna push it.
Also, OG combination techniques (e.g The Hurricane, tho that’s because the two are put to the defender position but you know, a defensive Hissatsu from Shirou & Kazemaru might deal nicely) might be nice. But then that’s kind of pushing it as well since there’s a need for the new characters to shine.
You gave Ichihoshi OG Shirou storyline and it’s finished in maybe 12 episodes. Just why.
Kozoumaru could be done better. Enough said.
Shirou pulling a 007 on us is also on the next level, but it’s not properly defined.
I love him but why? I’m pretty curious about the reasons he struck the deal with Shinjou, after hearing about his reasons to fight Orion. Yes, one of the reasons I’m positive about is to protect the team. Also, why did Shinjou seek him out in the first place?
How did everyone in InaJapan react? Did Atsuya or Asuto reveal/told the team anything when they learn of this? I have no idea. Maybe not cause as it wasn’t revealed to InaJapan at all before he returned.
It’ll be fun to see him go down to InaJapan halfway during the Orion match going ‘surprise bitch, I’m back’ after being released, which I think he did behind the scenes, if not he’ll not be in the final photo of InaJapan. If they can do this with Fudou then why not?
And, that’s about it. Just some random ranting, just take it with a grain of salt because I’m still pretty new after only watching it a little when younger so there might have been things I’ve missed.
It’s still a good watch though, I enjoyed it loads and it got me hooked! That’s for someone who isn’t the largest fan of sports anime since maybe...Kuroko no Basuke (KnB) so I guess there’s that.
Anyway, if you have read until this point, thank you so much. Have one of my favorite screencaps!
If you think for a second I'm paying to listen to anyone else's shitty takes on this site, you're wrong, Tumblr.com.
I have enough shitty takes I'm subjected to for free by my own brain. I'm fact, I should be paid for some of the stuff I'm forced to listen to every day by my own awful cranium.
Nothing is worse than loving an anime no one else knows about. There's no one making headcanons and fanart for it, and you think "I'll be the one to do it!" And then you never do.
I'm all caught up on Psycho Pass and like I feel empty man.
I decently like season 3 so far. It's really slow, and I find myself skipping around the episodes because they're long and not very action-packed. I like Arata and Kei as protags, but I hate that empathy thing Arata does. It feels exactly like Will Graham from Hannibal lol. Also, it seems out of place in the Psycho Pass universe. Like, if he was just smart and very deductive, sure. That's awesome. But the way they portray it seems like an out of place superpower.
Also, I don't find the mystery this season very compelling. Like they keep hinting at the Foxes but don't really say why they're so scary. What can they really do against society? They seem like common criminals. They've been putting Akane's story off too long. I think she has something to do with the Foxes, like she was investigating them and got put away because of that. But because they refuse to tell us about our girl, I have no idea. At least Makishima and Togane were villains we could follow and possibly connect with. I don't feel much toward any of these villains.
I miss the original crew. Call me a season 1 shill, but it was such a good season. The movie and the SS movies gave me the same feel season 1 had, and I wish season 3 would too. Season 2 was good too, it just felt a bit rushed. Even that would be better than this. Maybe I'm just salty about the completely new cast, but like yeah. If you have characters who everyone loves I don't understand why you sideline them like that.
I'm hoping season 3 is just a little interlude and season 4 will be the end of the Sybil System with Kougami and Akane as the main two characters again. That would be cool. I feel like Arata and Kei are gonna add something to the plot with Sybil in the last two eps, but I hate how the emphasis has been off the system thus far.
Also wtf is Foreign Affairs? I want to see them in action. (I miss Teppei more than I thought I would lolol). Also, I need more Ginoza and Kougami tag-team action. And Frederica is interesting to me.
I AM FUCKING BAWLING THIS ANIME IS AMAZING HOLY CRAP
This is gonna get spoilery so pls don't read it you don't want spoilers.
THE LAST TWO EPS ACTUALLY BROKE ME I LOVED MASAOKA (I also loved Kagari but the old man really got me :')) THIS IS SUCH SHIT AHHHHH
also when Ko actually killed Makishima I wanted to scream. Akane tried her best. Best girl :'(((
I loved all of Division 1's dynamics, and the end with the new Enforcers felt so wronggg
BUT THE PART THAT REALLY GOT ME WAS THE FACT AKANE SAID THE SAME EXACT THINGS TO THE NEW INSPECTOR THAT GINOZA SAID TO HER IN EPISODE 1. IM NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING. My two fave characters, God that touched me.
It feels weird having Gino as an Enforcer now, but hopefully he'll be just as amazing in this field as he was as an inspector. Also, I loved his glasses, but he looks hella without them too ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Looking forward to season 2! I hope Ko can somehow meet up with them again, especially Akane because I ship them so hard lololol
