I made a version of ship meme. Plain, clean, with things I thought interesting all crammed into one sheet. Just for giggles.
I made a ship meme template! Feel free to use it, I pulled from some other ones floating around because I wanted certain bits but not others

Finding SV Character Heights Part 1
Procrastination leads to wonderful places, and for me that's "hey what if I could get rough estimates for canon heights using the ingame models?" So I did! Unfortunately, this post got long so I only included the heights of a few major characters for now. Teachers, Gym Leaders + League, and Team Star will be in separate posts!
Protagonist: 5'0" Nemona: 5'8" Penny: 5'1" Arven: 5'7" Clavell: 5'7" Sada: 5'9" Turo: 6'1"
I used imageJ / Fiji for analysis and some screenshots from MunchingOrange's playthrough of the game on youtube. I explain the process and attached all the screenshots under the cut so you can judge the legitimacy of my "math" yourself!
Finding SV Character Heights Part 2: Team Star
Yippee-kay-yay. This was originally going to be part of the original post, but turns out these kids cannot and will not stand in a straight line so it took awhile. The jokes write themselves, so now they get their own post
Giacomo: 6'0" Mela: 5'3" Atticus: 5'8" Ortega: 4'8" Eri: 6'6"
Finding SV Character Heights Part 5: Gym Leaders
I got this super helpful image from @prince-kallisto that has all the gym leaders lined up, so I can finally add the gym leaders to this! I'm not entirely sure these are to scale bc they're not models but we do what we can. Thanks again prince!
We already know Larry's height, so we can just crossreference him with all the others, which makes this quick and easy!
Larry: 676 pixels - 75 inches - 6'3" Katy: 588 pixels - 65 inches - 5'5" (without the hat) Brassius: 644 pixels - 71 inches - 5'11" Iono: 528 pixels - 59 inches - 4'11" Kofu: 626 pixels - 69 inches - 5'9" Ryme: 590 pixels - 65 inches - 5'5" Tulip: 614 pixels - 68 inches - 5'8" (without heels, she's 6'0" in heels) Grusha: 602 pixels - 67 inches - 5'7"
Finding SV character heights Part 3: Teachers
Just like last time, all the screenshots I used and the process are under the cut! Reminder these are approximations bc of camera distances, human error, etc, so take them with a grain of salt
Miriam: 5'9" with heels, 5'4" without Jacq: 5'7" Dendra: 5'8" Raifort: 6'0" Saguaro: 6'2" Salvatore: 6'3" Tyme: 5'4"
Finding SV Character Heights Part 4: The League
So turns out this game just hates the gym leaders, because you can't interact with them except during the initial battles and rematches and in both of those the camera never lets them stand next to the protagonist without some kinda funky angle. I went through so many videos and couldn't get a single screenshot that worked for comparison, so tragically no gym leader heights :( if anyone has screenshots they think will work, through, send em my way! In the meantime, League Time
Rika: 5'7" Poppy: 3'6" Larry: 6'3" Hassel: 6'1" Geeta: 6'1"
lets try this again with the heights lol
Ur a godsend thank you so much!! Sorry for the inconvenience with this-- tumblr sure is a functioning website. That being said:
SV Character Heights but they're actually correct this time
Main Characters: Protagonist: 60 inches - 5'0" Nemona: 66 inches - 5'6" Penny: 60 inches - 5'0" Arven: 65 inches - 5'5" Sada: 67 inches - 5'7" Turo: 70 inches - 5'10" Gym Leaders: Katy: 69 inches - 5'9" (without hat) Brassius: 70 inches - 5'10" Iono: 64 inches - 5'4" (with heels) Kofu: 71 inches - 5'11" Ryme: 67 inches - 5'7" (with heels) Tulip: 77 inches - 6'5" (with heels) Grusha: 68 inches - 5'8" Pokemon League: Rika: 68 inches - 5'8" Poppy: 38 inches - 3'2" Larry: 77 inches - 6'5" Hassel: 77 inches - 6'5" Geeta: 72 inches - 6'0" Academy Teachers: Miriam: 66 inches - 5'6" Tyme: 67 inches - 5'7" Clavell: 67 inches - 5'7" Dendra: 69 inches - 5'9" Jacq: 71 inches - 5'11" Raifort: 73 inches - 6"1" Salvatore: 75 inches - 6'3" (jeez) Saguaro: 77 inches - 6'5" (HELLO????) Team Star: Giacomo: 70 inches - 5'10" Mela: 60 inches - 5'0" Atticus: 67 inches - 5'7" Ortega: 54 inches - 4'6" Eri: 75 inches - 6'3"
Some of My Favorite Ways to Describe a Character Who’s Sick
pressing their forehead into something cool or comfortable (this could be an array of things. the table, the floor, someones leather jacket, their water bottle, the countertop)
warm to the touch, or heat radiating from them (could be noticed if someone’s gauging their temperature with their hands, hugging them, or just generally touching them)
leaning into people’s touch, or just spontaneously leaning on them (like pressing into their hand when someone’s checking their temp, or just, like, literally walking up and laying their head on them from fatigue. bonus points if the character is usually feral and the other is scared to engage™︎)
falling asleep all over the place (at the dinner table, on their homework, in the car, in the bathroom — just being so exhausted from doing literally nothing)
being overly emotional (crying over things that don’t usually bother them, like their siblings arguing, or their homework, or literally just nothing)
stumbling/careening/staggering into things (the wall, furniture, other people. there is no coordination in feverish brains. running into chairs, hitting the door, falling over the couch, anything and everything)
slurring their words (could be from fatigue or pain. connecting words that shouldn’t be connected, murdering all of their conversations with the excessive use of ‘mm’ and ‘nn’ in place of words) (this is my favorite thing ever)
being overly touchy (basically like a sick kid — just hold them, please. do that thing where you brush their hair back out of their face, or rub circles on their back, or snuggle them. they won’t care. bonus points if this is also the feral character and they refuse to believe it afterwards)
being extremely resistant to touch (flinching away when they usually don’t so someone can’t feel the fever, not letting themselves be touched because they’re so tired they just know they’ll be putty in their hands if they do)
growing aggressive or being extremely rude (it’s a defense mechanism — they feel vulnerable and are afraid of being manipulated or deceived while they’re ill)
whimpering/whining/groaning (this was in my “characters in pain” post but it’s so good that i’m putting it here too. this shite is gold, especially if it’s just an involuntary reaction to their symptoms)
having nightmares caused by a fever and/or delirium (crying and murmuring in their sleep, or being awake but completely out of it and convinced they’re somewhere else)
making themselves as small as possible (curling up into a ball everywhere they lay, hunching over slightly when standing, wrapping their arms around themselves)

Caretaker spots whumpee in moment of genuine happiness (like a real laugh or doing something carefree like humming a tune to themself) and instantly fills with emotion. Whumpee, perplexed by caretaker's expression, thinks they did something wrong and stops, apologizing to caretaker who quickly tries to explain:
"No, no, you don't have to stop! It's just, you haven't since... I'm glad."
show, don't tell:
anticipation - bouncing legs - darting eyes - breathing deeply - useless / mindless tasks - eyes on the clock - checking and re-checking
frustration - grumbling - heavy footsteps - hot flush - narrowed eyes - pointing fingers - pacing / stomping
sadness - eyes filling up with tears - blinking quickly - hiccuped breaths - face turned away - red / burning cheeks - short sentences with gulps
happiness - smiling / cheeks hurting - animated - chest hurts from laughing - rapid movements - eye contact - quick speaking
boredom - complaining - sighing - grumbling - pacing - leg bouncing - picking at nails
fear - quick heartbeat - shaking / clammy hands - pinching self - tuck away - closing eyes - clenched hands
disappointment - no eye contact - hard swallow - clenched hands - tears, occasionally - mhm-hmm
tiredness - spacing out - eyes closing - nodding head absently - long sighs - no eye contact - grim smile
confidence - prolonged eye contact - appreciates instead of apologizing - active listening - shoulders back - micro reactions
One thing I can literally never get enough of in fic is personality shifts when a character is sick.
Characters who are usually pleasant and easygoing suddenly becoming irritable or snapping at their friend over something small. Characters who are normally short tempered reacting to something uncharacteristically calmly because they just don’t have the energy to get worked up.
Characters who are usually confident and attention-seeking feeling insecure and acting standoffish. Characters who are usually reserved and not into physical touch becoming oddly cuddly and affectionate.
Characters who are usually neat losing willpower and letting their space become a mess. Characters who typically don’t bother keeping things organized becoming unusually conscientious about keeping things clean and sanitized in an effort to prevent the spread of whatever they have.
This could go on forever, it’s so basic but I am so obsessed.
Low level/continuous pain tips for writing
Want to avoid the action movie effect and make your character's injuries have realistic lasting impacts? Have a sick character you're using as hurt/comfort fodder? Everyone has tips for how to write Dramatic Intense Agony, but the smaller human details of lasting or low-level discomfort are rarely written in. Here are a few pain mannerisms I like to use as reference:
General
Continuously gritted teeth (may cause headaches or additional jaw pain over time)
Irritability, increased sensitivity to lights, sounds, etc
Repetitive movements (fidgeting, unable to sit still, slight rocking or other habitual movement to self-soothe)
Soft groaning or whimpering, when pain increases or when others aren't around
Heavier breathing, panting, may be deeper or shallower than normal
Moving less quickly, resistant to unnecessary movement
Itching in the case of healing wounds
Subconsciously hunching around the pain (eg. slumped shoulders or bad posture for gut pain)
Using a hand to steady themself when walking past walls, counters, etc (also applies to illness)
Narration-wise: may not notice the pain was there until it's gone because they got so used to it, or may not realize how bad it was until it gets better
May stop mentioning it outright to other people unless they specifically ask or the pain increases
Limb pain
Subtly leaning on surfaces whenever possible to take weight off foot/leg pain
Rubbing sore spots while thinking or resting
Wincing and switching to using other limb frequently (new/forgettable pain) or developed habit of using non dominant limb for tasks (constant/long term pain)
Propping leg up when sitting to reduce inflammation
Holding arm closer to body/moving it less
Moving differently to avoid bending joints (eg. bending at the waist instead of the knees to pick something up)
Nausea/fever/non-pain discomfort
Many of the same things as above (groaning, leaning, differences in movement)
May avoid sudden movements or turning head for nausea
Urge to press up against cold surfaces for fever
Glazed eyes, fixed stare, may take longer to process words or get their attention
Shivering, shaking, loss of fine motor control
If you have any more details that you personally use to bring characters to life in these situations, I'd love to hear them! I'm always looking for ways to make my guys suffer more write people with more realism :)
