Tetsu walked into your dingy room, confused by the complete lack of light and life; where the hell were you? He wandered around until he flopped down onto the couch, energy depleted from the rough day of training.
He nearly fell to the floor when he heard you squeal and felt you kicking him.
“Don’t sit on me you doof!”
He stared at you in disbelief; how did he miss this adorable bundle of blankets and sniffles? He shifted himself off of your legs and gently put his hands around where he assumed was your middle, ready to pull you up onto his lap.
“____, are you okay? This isn’t like you to sit around in the dark.”
As you nuzzled to his shoulder he felt your entire body deflate with a long, depressed sigh.
“I can’t do it, Su. I just… it feels like nobody wants to see my work and even then it’s so hard sometimes.”
He let you say your piece, a little shocked at how he hadn’t noticed this thing that had been bothering you so very much. He pressed his lips to your temple, crushing you to his chest so hard you almost lost your breath.
“It feels that way doesn’t it. Everyone loses their way sometimes. Here, let me hold your hands.”
You knew something silly was about to come out of his mouth but it was hard to resist such sincere requests. He had his serious voice on which usually meant some strange mashup of shogi and baseball convoluted into an even stranger analogy.
“I can’t do what you can do. You have a talent and you work hard. People see it, I promise… even if you think nobody else does I do. But maybe you need a break. You have me the whole weekend and not a single other person can take me from you.”
Eijun felt like a headless chicken in this situation. Sure he’d lost his confidence before and even motivation on rare occasion but he couldn’t for the life of him remembered how to fix it. Should he call Chris? He would know what to do for sure!
But before he could even unlock his phone he heard you mumble in his direction.
“Chris doesn’t have the answers, dear. Just forget I said anything okay? It doesn’t matter”
His jaw dropped and a subtle rage filled his veins. How could this not matter??? How could your happiness ever not matter. No. He wouldn’t allow it for one second more.
“You matter! You matter to me and I don’t know what forced you into this block but I won’t rest until we find a path forward!”
You smirked at him, already riled by his enthusiasm and desire to help. This kid really loved you with everything he had… how could you reject whatever harebrained scheme he was about to pitch to you.
“We’ll try a new way of drawing. I like water colours. I’m not good but let’s make something together… just for us though. It’ll be ours and it’ll be for fun.”
Your expression gave away your confusion but Eijun carried on, running to his room to fetch his own battered art supplies. You weren’t used to this method but maybe spending a little time just having fun with him would perk you up.
A few hours later you caught him staring at you, a huge grin splitting his face ear to ear.
“You’re having fun”
“… I am”
“Do you like mine? It’s Harucchi but as a bunny. I like yours too”
“I can tell. It’s cute… do you want to start our joint project now?”
It might not have been the thing you’d wanted to start but it was something you’d never thought to try yourself and ,as Eijun put it, at least it got a smile on your face.
