The dropping rain and the glacier lagoon were melting together when we arrived Jökulsárlón. In south east of Iceland, this glacier lagoon stems down from Europe's largest glacier, Vatnajökull. In the "land of fire and ice", even the murmurous sound from the glacier lagoon amazingly glowed like fire.

Zona Imaginaria
S(urr)ounding project is a series and planned to take place in different locations in the world. It firstly happened in Buenos Aires, Argentina while I was doing my artist residency at Zona Imaginaria during June to July 2012, which has become meaningful to not only this project but also to myself.
The soundscape of Buenos Aires is way vivid than just tango (don’t doubt, I like it though). Even now, it’s still not really explainable how Latin culture amazingly embraced me and gave birth to this project, especially as I almost have no knowledge in Spanish at all, but one thing for certain is my time in Buenos Aires has linked me with this city’s strong daily breathing and reflected in the first three pieces of S(urr)ounding. Mucho gracias!
S(URR)OUNDING #1 - Zona on Wednesday. The first two weeks when I just arrived Argentina, I spent more time staying at the residency to get familiar with the neighborhood. The piece is from one Wed. afternoon I participated in the printmaking workshop and children’s art class in Zona Imaginaria. S(urr)ounding project started from here, when Zona Imaginaria opens its door to me. I’ve also been touched by the education concept here. This work is in memory of the very first beginning and every sincere people I met here.

About S(urr)ounding Project
It's a series of works to transform the collected soundscape into music. Instead of to “sample” the sound and cut it into pieces, this project is trying to retain what we really hear, to remain the atmosphere of the space, to preserve the sound, and let the music arrangement grows on the irregular rhythm of the original soundscape.
S(urr)ounding Project 為一系列音樂創作，以實際存在的聲音場景為作曲背景，經由旅行各地，關注不同文化及特定地區的聲音場景，加以收集保存並透過音樂賦予其新的樣貌和聆聽可能。
