Medical Microbiology Assignment
Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) on Oxoid Brilliance/Spectra M.R.S.A. selective chromogenic agar (by Nathan Reading)
S. aureus, a facultative anaerobic Gram-positive coccal bacterium, is the most common Staphylococci to cause Staph infections, in part because of the carotenoid pigment staphyloxanthin, which acts as a virulence factor along with providing the golden color of S. aureus colonies. MRSA is a strain of S.aureus that has become resistant to most antibiotics. Read more about S.aureus here.
