The team's research is published in the journal mSphere. MRSA is caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, which is classified as a serious threat by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a high-priority pathogen by the World Health Organization.

Staphylococcus aureus

Staphylococcus aureus is a type of bacteria with many known strains that have become resistant to antibiotics. Methicillin resistance (MRSA), vancomycin intermediate resistance (VISA), and vancomycin resistance (VRSA) are some examples of strains that are partially or fully resistant to antibiotics, making them major concerns in hospitals. It's estimated that only 2% of S. aureus strains are sensitive to penicillin antibiotics.

A while back, I drew an illustration of Staphylococcus bacteria being destroyed by the new antibiotic mechanism that I discovered. The bacteria membrane loses the wavy structure needed for their communication and cell cycle. It was selected as a cover of the Nano Letter journal, where my article got published.

Some random person: makes light of sepsis

Me, having seen what happens to someone with sepsis: *deep breathing* Barely restraining my rage.

I have seen someone lose his mind to sepsis. He used to be well-aware of himself, his surroundings, of how to communicate, etc. Due to sepsis, he was unable to form coherent sentences. He woke up in pools of blood. He had holes that shouldn't have existed. He had MRSA and was unable to be treated. He was one of the many people who died from MRSA. A seriously difficult fucker to get rid of when it appears in places it shouldn't be.

MRSA exists naturally in our bodies, like the nares, but when introduced to a foreign environment, MRSA can lead to death. Sepsis is no joke. That man seemed almost entirely different from the person I helped cared for. From the arrival to his final months, that man was a completely different person.

He made poor choices which resulted in him becoming infected with MRSA. After seeing what happened as a result, it pains me whenever someone brings it up. I think of him every time I see any mention of sepsis. That was a horrible way to leave.

Never make light of these situations.
