With a band name like SATANIC PUNK INTERNATIONAL CONSPIRACY -- S.P.I.C. for short -- you're made to wonder: Is listening to them a good idea?
Yes. It's a VERY good idea.
Meet S.P.I.C., natives of Marfa, Texas, famous for the location for the late-great James Dean's last movie on Earth AND the Marfa ghost lights -- mysterious, unexplained glowing spheres that appear randomly in the night air east of town since the 1800s. Add to that S.P.I.C.
Weird doesn't even to begin how S.P.I.C. and don't worry, they won't take it the wrong way. With such a provocative name comes an unexpectedly interesting punk-rock sound; lots of pounding rhythms and grinding guitars that would blow your mind and eardrums alike! With an even wickeder attitude, S.P.I.C. delivers debauchery in their music oh-so-good.
S.P.I.C. are brothers David (lead singer/guitar) and JD (bass/vocals) Garcia with Ryan 'Pinksy' Penland (drums). Influences such as Green Day's 'Dookie' album, the Sex Pistols, and Fugazi embedded a sense of punk-rocker in them. The Garcia brothers paid their dues forming crappy local bands, then becoming S.P.I.C. in 2005 where they unintentionally scandalized their mostly Catholic town for their name and bar-owners for their outrageous antics, barring them in local hangouts.
But with album 'Day Drunk', S.P.I.C. are only interested in giving you music that is: ‘The prefect sampling of S.P.I.C.’s singular brand of sardonic, pinched-nose irreverence and caustic-but-catchy melodies, Day Drunk’s nine raging blasts blaze by in barely 24 minutes, leaving a trail of broken glass and snot-covered wordage behind.’
Vice Magazine, a notoriously cynical publication, gave their two-cents in calling S.P.I.C. as ‘just the right amount of shouty and snotty and funny’. Not bad for sardonic rockers who come from a Catholic town with mysterious glowing lights.
Watch out for more S.P.I.C. converting you to their depraved and wicked ways. Download their album ‘Day Drunk’ at iTunes distributed by JMD Records and INgrooves, a partner of Universal Music Group.
