I’m so excited One Week, One Band is publishing this! I was originally going to write one long post about the album that defines my angsty teen years for this blog, but this is even better.

I've been knee deep in my FIRST World Championship coverage that I forgot what day it is...
I’m traveling with Marfa HS robotics team to the FIRST World Championship this week in St. Louis. I’ll be documenting the experience for the Big Bend Sentinel, Marfa Public Radio and Marfa ISD. Links will be posted on my blog for an one stop shop. If you’re in town, come send off the team at 1:30pm at the high school!

"I'm like a bird. I only fly away..." As you can tell, it's SXSW time. This may look dorky, but this is one of the coolest things I've ever done. Thanks, @tiffanyharelik! 🎥: @julian88tex #sxsw #googlefiber (at Google Fiber Space)
Leaving The Couch: The story of Löwin and Otis the Destroyer
"I feel like there (was) this whole new wave of fairly newer bands or bands that (were) rebranding themselves," said Sara Houser.
Although, she did noticed that 2014 was the Year of the Horse in Chinese Zodiac, which meant change was coming. So it wasn’t a surprise that there seemed to be a shift in the Austin music scene as some bands changed their name, the line-up or just plainly moved on.
She was no exception.
Well this came together pretty quickly. If you wanna hear the whole thing, go to the Texas Standard website: http://www.texasstandard.org/shows/current/your-weekend-must-do-list-march-6-8/ Thanks to Rhonda Fanning for the opportunity! I still hate my radio voice though. #partylikeajournalist #childrenofgiant #jamesdean #giant #texasstandard (at The Big Bend Sentinel)
Big Bend Sentinel: Film reveals Giant director’s take on racism of the times
I'm so happy my editor Robert assigned this story to me. This one was a little personal for me as I remember hearing my Mexican-American parents (who didn't grew up in Marfa) share similar stories about how they weren't allowed to speak Spanish at school. My mom's schools were desegregated when she was in the 5th grade.
Hector Galan, the director, was great to talk to. I wish I got to add more to the article, but I was already pushing 1200 words. I got to see the film before the interview (perks of being a reporter) and I highly recommend it. Two thumbs up.
Film reveals Giant director’s take on racism of the times
MARFA – Marfa residents will finally have the chance to see the documentary, Children of Giant, when it has its local premiere at 7pm Saturday, March 7, at the Crowley Theater.
Giant, the West Texas epic film featuring Liz Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean, played an important milestone in Marfa history as the ranch community was in the throes of a major drought when Director George Stevens came with movie stars, a large film crew, and production trucks.
Children of Giant features the parallel between Marfa’s racial prejudice at the time with the groundbreaking three-hour movie that addresses Mexican racism and feminism. Many current Marfa residents are featured in the film.

This is not the first time I've written about the film Giant (and it probably won't be the last). I also did a convergence piece with the newspaper and Marfa Public Radio about a woman who came to Marfa for the first time since she met James Dean at the Hotel Paisano 60 years ago.
You can read and listen to that story here.
Everything about this song explains exactly how I feel about Austin. More specifically how I feel about the always-changing East Austin I grew up in. One of these days I'll put into words how those changes affect me and my family.
In meantime, just listen to this song.
East Cameron Folkcore will release the album with this song on April 7.
#SXSW rollcall! Who's going? Who's playing? Who's speaking in a panel? Lemme know. I might end up writing about you. 😊 #partylikeajournalist
Any advice on how to start writing a script? Love G&S and all of your work! Hope you're having a nice night!
1. Have an idea.
2. Write it down.
3. Keep writing it.
4. Don’t stop writing it.
5. Ignore the voice that tells you to stop writing it.
6. Write some more until it’s finished.
7. Walk away from it for a little bit.
8. Read it.
9. Rewrite the parts that need rewriting.
10. Publish it.
Good advice.
