Simplified bingo version of the Spec List
I thought I might as well make it a tradition
(updated the Spec List as a result of putting this together as well, annotating it more comprehensively and adding 2 additional theories I discovered on S09′s List that were still relevant and hadn’t been carried over)
actual plot twist: dean gets cured but the changes in his personality and behavior are irreversible
still thinking about blackbirds since the set images of the Blackbird Motel
...and, yeah, so in my mind -
black = demon
bird = angel
ergo, ‘blackbird’ = demon/angel hybird
...so my tired brain just keep circling around this and thinking - so, hint to demon!possessed!Cas? or hint to angel!Dean? (since Dean is partly demon atm) or, idk, hell, hint to deancas if we take it as a kind of portmanteau/ship name (like Holy Hell)? :p
Letting go and moving on...
So I’ve been ruminating all day over this.
And it’s lightened my heart TREMENDOUSLY :)
Because I’ve been whining whining whining about the idea of the season ending with Dean leaving everyone and how the idea bores me and it’s all repetition of one of the brothers leaving and the other pining over them and/or trying to get them back and continuing the cycle and oh woe is me!
But now I think it’s like the fog is clearing in my mind and I’m realising that my attitude towards the idea is all wrong, and I’m coming at it all wrong.
Because I’m imagining Dean leaving for negative reasons - because he is angry at Sam and Cas for going behind his back or because he thinks he can’t be with them because he is poison still and such. So I’m imagining a big dramatic break-up that doesn’t actually solve or resolve anything, is just the result of a flare of intense emotion that will eventually just be buried again when Dean and Sam (and Cas) inevitably get back together and change nothing.
But, oh OH, what IF it’s like the meta in the link says - Dean simply leaving in order to have some space and time to himself and for himself? Not out of anger or hurt but as a result of a calm and collected decision? Out of awareness that he WANTS to take some time to care for himself, and maybe even out of awareness that he and Sam have become too wrapped up in each other and its effecting both of them badly, that they are becoming too obsessed with each other and it’s leading them to dark places and dark choices.
But... I don’t know if I like the idea of Dean making the call that he and Sam need to have some time apart for both of their own good - time away from Dean is not going to help Sam if he’s not also on board with the idea.
So... WHAT IF it’s not just that DEAN LEAVES, what if ALL TFW AGREE TO PART WAYS at the end of the season? ALL taking time for themselves, to figure out themselves and what they want and who they are and how they want to move forward with their lives.
What if we come back next season after a small time jump, during which Dean had his beach vacation, and Sam manned the MoL and hunted and maybe helped others with hunts like Charlie or Cas, and Cas when not occasionally working with Sam or Charlie was off travelling/hunting on his own and figuring out the best ways he can help people and maybe visiting Claire...?
And Dean sends Sam postcards with lighthearted messages on to let him know he’s okay, which Sam shares with Cas when they cross paths, and Cas shares the drunken texts/voicemails Dean sent him and texts his disapproval to Dean about the images on the postcards, and all the tension inside them and between them just starts bleeding out, until finally there’s this one case that Sam checks out and discovers is way too much for him on his own, so he calls Cas for backup, only Cas happens to be texting/skyping/whatever to Dean at the time (like showing him a goofy photo Jody sent him of Claire and Alex or something) and when he explains he has to go and help Sam with a case Dean thinks it sounds too much even for the two of them and decides to come along as well and they just sort of, ease back together...
Oh, but, WOULDN’T IT BE NICE?
...okay I took this a bit far!
But the idea that maybe the boys all split amicably is, I think, a possibility maybe??
And Dean leaving with a goodbye note could maybe be a nice bookend to the beginning of the season but in a positive progressive way al a the way Amelia and Jimmy’s scenes bookended Angel Heart.
Because the first scene with Amelia’s dream sequence of Jimmy coming home to her indicated a loop or DESTRUCTIVE CYCLE after all - Amelia being literally trapped in the grigori’s illusion that replayed her desperate longing to be reunited with Jimmy over and over, each replay draining more and more of her life as it allowed the grigori to feed on her, the implication being that the scenario we are watching is very much not the first instance of the cycle that Amelia has lived through. Which parallels what the beginning of this season indicated with Sam and Dean - one brother missing, the other desperately longing to be reunited with them. A scenario we know is very much not the first of its kind Sam and Dean have lived through, and like Amelia’s dream sequence the unfolding of the scenario held the implication that unless something changes it will continue to replay and replay.
But then the final scene with Amelia coming home to Jimmy implied a final BREAK in the destructive cycle - the same reunion scenario only finally played out DIFFERENTLY, a single scene that implied there would be no further repetition but that Claire and Jimmy would go on to do new things. Which could be paralleled by Dean leaving a goodbye note again, presenting the same scenario as at the start of the season, but having it and everyone’s reaction to it play out notably different - say if the note was a HAPPY one and perhaps expected (eg.“see you guys soon”??) and Sam (and Cas) accepted it and let Dean go, implying that they are not repeating the scenario presented at the start of the season but are going on to do new things.
Oh god, thinking all that though has actually got me EXCITED!
Because, oh, there’s more little things in the Jimmy and Amelia scenes that reflect Sam and Dean’s issues - like how in the repeating loop Jimmy is actually somewhat CONTROLLING of Amelia, dismissing and talking over her exclamations of fear by insisting ‘it’s okay it’s okay’ and physically holding on to her to stop her pulling away from him. Which kinda reflects how the brothers have been making choices for each other about what is best for the other, sometimes regardless of the other’s opinions/feelings/resistance, trying to force their personal POV of the situation onto the other, like Jimmy tries to force Amelia to believe ‘it’s okay.’
Whereas when Jimmy and Amelia meet outside of the cycle in Heaven Jimmy is much more respectful of Amelia’s space, not at all crowding her, and they both listen to each other and tell each other they love each other with communication being open and a two way street and are generally more equal seeming - which is everything that Dean and Sam SHOULD be, and thus maybe foreshadowing of where the are headed?? :)
...though ofc all this assumes that the Mark is dealt with by the end of the season and the finale doesn’t leave us with a looming threat that requires immediate attention next season as part of its cliffhanger.
Still here’s to hoping! I am LETTING GO of and MOVING ON from my whining :p
What do you think Metatron will do with the Demon Tablet? And how will it link with the main storyline and play out as Crowley, Rowena and Sam also make their respective moves?
I’ve been pondering this on and off since you sent it, anon dear. But, DAMN, I’m sorry, I honestly have NO IDEA what Metatron will/can do with the demon tablet!
All I can think is that he may use it to strike some kind of deal with Crowley - since Crowley, as ruler of Hell/demons, seems to me to be the one for which the DEMON tablet would hold the most value. He did go to a lot of trouble to get Kevin to translate it after all, but never saw much return for his trouble. I suspect Crowley might be very keen to have the demon tablet back, esp. if Metatron offers to unlock its secrets/power for him.
What Metatron might ask Crowley in return though... not a clue! Or... hmmm... perhaps he could get Crowley to get his grace back from Cas (who I assume still has it?)...
Yes, let’s go with that as a prediction! Metatron offering Crowley the demon tablet in exchange for Crowley helping get his grace back. Yup.
Though no doubt there would be double dealings, because it’s Metatron and Crowley :p And Metatron would likely have no intention of actually unlocking the power of the demon tablet for Crowley... potentially he could use the knowledge from the tablet to control Crowley somehow maybe? Idk!
We already have it spoiled that the very last scene of the finale is only Sam and Dean. Fans were watching filming last week and talked to Russ Hamilton (the location manager) about them filming the final scene of the script earlier that day and how it was unlike anything they've done before because of some kind of tech used or something like that. Crew also confirmed to the fans that only J2 were filming that day, and I believe Misha was also spotted in Bellingham that day, if I'm not mistaken.
Hmmm... well that’s not necessarily gonna be something I’ll dislike just because. A great deal of the story of the show is about Sam and Dean’s relationship after all :p And I am very interested to see how it’s going to have progressed by the end of this season.
And just because Misha wasn’t in the VERY FINALE SCENE doesn’t mean that Cas won’t be a significant part of the ending scenario... *crosses fingers*
