Maybe when beeb is in school I'll have time for this but I would love to host a yearlong like...group discussion of a work, with lots of digging in and stuff.

So like, one year we do Frankenstein.

Forgive the *checks clock* 20 minute syllabus.

First month, we read the 1831 version of Frankenstein.

Next month, we watch the 1931 movie Frankenstein

Next month, we read at least bits of Paradise Lost

Next month, we learn about the Romantics. Some history, poems, a little biography, I would put something together.

Next month, we watch Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (1994)

Next month, we read the 1818 version of Frankenstein.

Next month, we read some Ovid and Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Next month, we read Frankisstein by Jeanette Winterson

Next month, we watch the reason people would sign up in the first place, GdT's Frankenstein

Next month, we reread the 1831 version of Frankenstein

Next month, we would give little presentations about how WE would adapt or rewrite a version of Frankenstein that pulls something out of the book that is interesting or new, that keeps what you feel is the heart of the story, what it's really about.

Last month, we discuss ourselves some fucking Frankenstein. What is the novel actually about? What adaptations we saw missed or hit, and why? How will you go forward looking at the Frankenstein story? What changed for you?

No one would do it because it's goddamn nearly a college class and it's hard to get most people to really apply themselves to learning new things once they leave school. But I think it would be so fun.

A small handful of you have asked if I plan on continuing Pipe Dreams, and the answer is yes! I've been slowly but surely working on chapter 3 and I have one more scene left to write!

Thank you to everyone who has read the first two chapters and has left kudos or comments! They have helped keep me going when the chaos that surrounds me makes writing difficult.

In a shocking moment, Cousin Creepy reveals the truth about Fina to Marta in a vile and despective manner, after having dug for information about Pelayo. Why? Because, at this point, even this seemingly absurd idea feels plausible. This is where we currently stand: a situation in which I no longer expect Marta to connect the dots, even with the truth laid before her in neon lights.

For over 100 episodes, Marta's character has endured relentless humiliation. Instead of providing any relief for her or the audience, the writers continue to intensify her suffering by adding more negativity and trauma. Even the final episodes of the season fail to offer any respite from this ongoing nightmare of absurdity and complete character degradation. Additionally, the genre and Alba’s pregnancy do not justify the mediocrity of the writing team. Using them as excuses for poor storytelling is simply a copout. The reality is that the writers have made no effort to deliver quality content and have never had any contingency plans in place. It’s a narrative disaster, plain and simple.

I keep remembering one of Marta Belmonte's latest red carpet interviews, where she said she was looking forward to watching these episodes as a viewer herself, because she’s excited to see it all come together. And I’m sitting here, apathetic, wondering what she was talking about. The way they’re gutting Marta de la Reina and Mafin is vile and repugnant. Marta's detached and dispassionate diary-burning says it all—so much for the supposed depth of her “endless love.” In other words, she is done asking herself the questions that she has never asked herself. All the heavy-lifting she has done seeking answers, now finally laid to rest. The heavy burden, now finally set aside, can only mean one thing. Freedom, Marta. You are now free to undergo the final phase of your retconning and character annihilation.

Marta is gone. This is not her. What remains is a pale counterfeit, empty of relevance, stripped of thought, deprived of even the faintest will. After her mourning period, when they, admittedly, rose to the occasion, they have hollowed Marta de la Reina into a narrative void, a character that does nothing but recede. It is a nightmare.

The same goes for tomorrow's preview, where Marta confirms the diary's destruction to Pelayo, as if it's an accomplishment to be proud of. You can count on it. It's all just another slap in the face. But hey, nothing new under the sun. The burning of the diary, Marta's last bastion of truth and the only tangible connection she still had to Fina—the memory of their love, enshrined and kept alive—is a violation of unspeakable cruelty. It's a violation of Marta herself, and another violation of the viewer's trust. Should I be even surprised anymore that they keep finding new lows to sink to? I mean, she’s burnt the diary selectively, but so is her memory as of late.

I also wanted to mention the upcoming interview with Marta B., to highlight my profound apathy. I'm not looking forward to it, but instead, it fills me with dread. I've had my fill of the relentless bad news. I'm slowly reaching a breaking point with a show that fails to recognize that conflict and conflict resolution require balance, cohesiveness, and respect for both the characters and the audience.

An apt imagery of what this entire season now feels like. Utter trash. And the ashes of anything worth loving and respecting about its characters and narrative. I feel sorry for @midniteowlet having to listen to my bouts of rage and disappointment about this show. It's all become too overwhelmingly depressing.
