13x13: The Prince of Lies
I used to think a lot about Lucifer, since I rped him over on DW. I typically played up the fact that humanity/the Bible etc. has given him a bad rep, and we have seen him repeatedly say that he doesn’t lie. It’s technically true. After all this time has he actually outright lied? Lucifer has been wrong, he’s misjudged people, he’s lied by omission (i.e. deliberately not said the truth), and he’s allowed people to come to their own conclusions about things. He’s also used specific ‘truths’ to get his own way and manipulate people into doing the short term things he needs them to do. He’s deceived by pretending to be other people--again, that’s not outright lying, though I’m pretty sure a thesaurus would say ‘lies’ and ‘deception’ are the same thing. Even trickier, then, when he says things like ‘you need me’ or ‘i’m the lesser evil compared to Michael’, for example, he’s using persuasive language to get his way. It’s not a lie per se, it’s a biased reading of the situation which allows him to move toward a position of manipulator.
It’s important to know how to see through this. It’s how politicians speak. It’s how journalists wrap what they want to say around the facts. It’s how scientists cherry pick from a variety of data.
If you take it as gospel that Lucifer always tells the truth, or at least some version of it, it does put a different spin on things. So. Here’s his chat with the angels from 13x13, because I think it’s important. It highlights a lot of these actions.
“I know we’ve had our problems in the past. Little family squabbles. Just minor family disagreements, you know? Kids being kids. But right now? You need me.” (Biased “fact”, opening manipulation)
“Kill him.”
“Okay, hold on! Number one, it’s true, I am powered down, but you can’t kill me.” (Fact no. 1)
“We could try. Repeatedly”
“Look, number two? I happen to know heaven is in short supply of angels. Okay let’s face it, after pop took a powder your only strength, your only defense was in numbers. And now with the prince of hell basically running...Hell? If the dark side makes a move y’all are screwed. You need more you. (More bias) But with dad gone and everything I mean who’s still up for birthing angels. Yo. Yo.”
“You can’t.”
“He can, Dumah.” (<---this is Anael. Read: If it is a lie, she can lie for him and it doesn’t count, right? BUT!)
“Who are you to speak to me?”
“Okay, she’s with me and you’re gonna listen to her. Hey look, I was here when you--when all of you were born, I saw how the old man did it. I can make angels, okay, and I’ll do it if—“
Okay, here it is. I can make angels, he says. There’s no dodging around the truth there. There’s no waiting for other people to assume it based on something he’s said. It’s blatant. And as much as I too am going ‘yeah? really? you’re blowing so much smoke up my ass I’m a chimney’ it would be inconstant with a view of Lucifer’s character to assume that this is a lie, and Dumah clearly doesn’t know what to make of it either. She’s incredulous, dismissive, confused.
“Enough games, Lucifer!”
“--if for my incredible act of generosity you name me the undisputed and unquestionable ruler of heaven.”
I guess this is where Lucifer is going to borrow his grace from from now on.
Dumah laughs
“Yeah? What’s funny?
“Oh come on. Let’s face it, you don’t wanna run the place, angels are designed to follow, not lead. Don’t give me the stink eye, that wasn’t my idea. And icing on the cake, guys? How’d you like your wings back?”
This last statement here is really interesting, because it would count as one of those tricksy lies where allowing the other party to assume he can give them their wings is their mistake, not him actually lying. It could work that way. It could, but honestly what would be the point?
The angels getting their wings back is too powerful a skill boost for them to skip, quite beside the fact that it means they don’t have to worry about angels driving around the place in station wagons any more. It would be like showing us the archangel blade/colt/first blade and then not using it. It’s too convenient to the writers and, honestly, too good an idea.
So my conclusion? Was Lucifer blowing smoke? Yes. Was he lying? Survey says ‘probably no’, as unsettling a possibility as that is. “I can” is a pretty bold and direct statement for Lucifer to make, and I can’t wait to find out how it’s done.
WAIT A MINUTE! Is that the background from the musical Episode? "The Road so Far" - it even says "Sioux Falls"? Lol. I love that they kept it! Sorry for the crappy quality.
Shades of Valentine
When Dean finds out Cas had been locked up by Asmodeus all this time, the guilt and fear of losing Cas start to eat him up. Cas must hate him now... right? So he decides to make up to him by buying sex toys from the Fifty Shades franchise. If only Dean knew what Cas had in store for him for his Valentine's present...

My new fic that I wrote in 3 days. I never wrote that much smut in my life... Or that much words for that matter... I had this crazy inspiration while walking down on the mall and it was so fucking perfect that I started smiling like crazy xD
This still doesn’t make sense.
Asmodeus’ mission at the beginning of the ep was presumably to go and get Gabriel, right? Thus the big reveal. Or was it to go get the archangel blade? In which case WHY FUCKING BOTHER? He clearly gives 0 shits about Michael. He thought Lucifer was weak and in his prison. He didn’t need an archangel blade to kill Lucifer because Lucifer was puppy chow. So bringing back Gabriel is. What. Why would Asmodeus do that? Oh, he’s a collector right? Problem fucking solved. So did he collect Gabriel a while ago? Considering his demons gave Cas a haircut while he was in jail it seems pretty weird he went to town on Gabe with the whole filth and grime thing. And then what? He moved Gabriel there from whatever hell hole he’s been keeping him in? Again, why? If Asmodeus had an archangel what the fuck does he need a bunch of useless demons for?
Other issues: Lucifer didn’t want to rule Heaven or he’d have MADE A DEAL WITH THE ANGELS IN ELEVEN. Like. Seriously. He had a hell of a trading advantage and WAY MORE GRACE back then.
I mean basically BL changed angel theory AGAIN to suit their own needs. This time grace is a quickly regenerating substance which people can take some of and it tops back up? Danneel was beautifully awesome in the role as expected but between consent issues and bad dialogue I am sitting here like ‘this? this is the role you thought was so awesome you had to come and do it?’ Mnn.
I would love to say that it was a watchable ep for Cas scenes because I am sooo starved of Castiel and I need him. But. Try as he might - and he really REALLY tried - Misha couldn’t fix BL’s dreadful expositionary dialogue. The scene outside the chicken shop with Casmodeus was just. How am I supposed to believe it? I know he’s soulless, but to literally rattle off every single little fact required to understand how this spell was going to get him Jack?
Vindicated: Casmodeus happened. Ketch is putting his eggs in TFWs basket, he knows where it’s at. Cas was glorious and Dean APOLOGIZED. But even Dean and Cas being in the same room together for at least FIVE entire minutes of TFW screentime (presumably of the 8 total we can expect this season), didn’t make me feel any better. It was all too... Blah. I’m disappoint. I mean yay, Gabriel’s back, but he couldn’t have come back on a worse episode, and I feel like I need to wash out my eyeballs after some of it.
And for those of you who hated 13x07? /points at this. /POINTS AT THIS
I couldn’t help myself. Source: X
Dean: “I just got hard.”
Sam: “Me too.”
Me: “Me too, boys. Me too.”
They cut this scene off before the best bit imo.
It’s so nice to be back on this storyline, even if I’m terrified for Cas I’m just so excited for everything else that’s coming. Awesome episode, and feeling really vindicated about Sammy’s trauma right now, even if I didn’t see that true face thing coming. Lucifer’s true face!
I am not going to miss him when he’s truly dead, especially if he fucks with my boy’s grace.
