A list of THANK YOUS for making #S17DayofAction against #Gentrification a SUCCESS!!!!
You know you are truly part of a movement when there are just too many people thank for all their hard work in making The September 17th NYC Day of Action against Racism, Gentrification & Police Brutality a success! (click the link to see pictures and articles) So I will simply thank EVERYONE who:
endorsed
gave money
made placards
painted banners or help with other tasks at the work sessions
designed flyers, the BAN sticker and website
handed out/ taped up/ distributed S17 flyers and stickers in their neighborhoods/churches/train stops/ festivals/block parties/parades/protests, etc.
tweeted, texted, emailed, posted on social media about S17
lent us their car, drove all over the city and fought with cops to drop off materials to the actions
got up at 6am to hand out flyers or played music at train stops on S17
PLAYED LIVE MUSIC AT THREE of the S17 ACTIONS
gave legal advice, did legal observing or cop watched
wrangled the cops to get us the sound permits and the steps at city hall
coordinated actions, the press conference, reached out to community groups to endorse, or took on a leadership role during the mobilization
came to the action before work, during their lunch break, left work early or was unfortunately too "sick" to go to work on S17
took minutes at the planning meetings, broke us into to subcommittees and kept us on track
came to S17 planning meetings, helped shape the day and participated in a consensus decision-making process
took pictures and live tweeted the actions especially since the mainstream media boycotted us
wrote articles and filmed for indie media especially since mainstream media boycotted us
came to participate at the day of action with baby strollers/scooters/their own chairs/or with Parkinson Disease
spoke out passionately against gentrification, police brutality and racism
spoke passionately about the displacement of elders, people living on government entitlements, homeless people, and low to middle income families from our neighborhoods
chaired the speak outs, held the sound system, led chants
thought to close the day of action with the “Assata Chant”
wrote new badass Hip-hop housing chants
made their own DOPE anti-gentrification signs
put the Mayor/NYPD/NYCHA/Dept. of City Planning/Developers/or Your Landlord on Blast
allowed us to use your office /venue /cafe for a BAN meeting or flyer distribution spot
disrupted Bratton's softball game in Staten Island
slept over night at City Hall Park
re-liberated Zuccotti Park
marched over the Manhattan Bridge followed by 100,000 cops (joking it was only a 1,000 with a LRAD machine)
Came from The Bronx, Queens or Manhattan to rally with us at Barclay's in Brooklyn
Walked across the street from the Wyckoff Houses to rally at Barclays
Took over the steps of City Hall or #ShutItdown in front of City Planning or the NYCHA management at the Farragut Houses
Stood up for small businesses, studios for artists,libraries, schools, and all other things gentrification is destroying in our communities
made the intersections about LGBTQ oppression, police violence & gentrification
did alot of prep work for the action even though you knew you would be out town on the 17th
did a lot of prep work for the action and unexpectedly had to leave town before the 17th
brought your amazing banners or wore your organization's t-shirt
held another organization's amazing banner or wore another group's t-shirt
WORE a BAN or #BEFOREITSGONE sticker or BOTH on your clothes
answered Equality for Flatbush's call to initiate The Brooklyn Anti-Gentrification (BAN), helped to shape the BAN platform and co-conspires with us everyday
