"Isn't it wonderful?" Angela asked, bouncing in place. "The ship is massive!"
"Are you sure this is what you want?" Daniel questioned one last time, his throat raw.
"Last call!" a shipmate declared. "All crew to decks. All passengers aboard. This is your finally warning!"
"That's me! Wish me luck on my first day to becoming a fishing boat captain!"
"You did well," Mary-Sue said. "My little girl is all grown up," Daniel cried. "She's going to be riding the seas, smelling of fish and salt, and...and...doing amazing things."
What is she going to do with her life?
Most of her classmates had a plan, one they formulated in college or a dream they had since being a child. Some managed to find their spark through high school or had a family business waiting for them back home.
For Ophelia, a career didn't sound exciting. The corporate ladder did not interest her.
For all her rebel music and attire, she wished for the most basic of things, something stolen from her as a child. A family.
She had one with her aunt and her mysterious love child with the Grim Reaper, something she didn't study too closely of how that was even possible.
Ophelia loved her cousin and adored his wife, but they were in their own little world, living the high life with a bun in the oven.
But Ophelia didn't feel part of them. Not really, the cousin on the end of family photos. She had friends, like Ripp, that she considered family, but they had their own lives far from hers.
"You're up early. Rough night?"
"I've had a lot on my mind," Ophelia answered and quickly regretted it. If there was anything true about her aunt Olive, she loved to "help."
But she only looked at her with calculation, not coldly, of course. Olive loved her niece deeply.
"I have a hair appointment today then I'm visiting the Grunts," Olive said. "You should come along."
"Jenny is beside herself. The house is almost too small for all of us now."
"Johnny's doing well. He has a new girlfriend, the actress, Donna." "Didn't Chloe date her?" "We don't talk about it."
"Pascal and PT are happy with their new house." "I'm sure it's the privacy they enjoy the most."
"And Vidcund moved out. He's living with his girlfriend and her roommate. It's going well thus far."
"The family must be thrilled. Two new members of the ever growing Curious-Smith household."
"There was some drama."
"You idiot, why are you here?"
"You know the truth, Crystal. You know those babies are mine."
"No, they are Lazlo's. And if you say anything different, I will have my alien family zap your ass into space. Do you hear me?"
"But I'm told it was settled."
