Gillian Anderson 19th April 2017 💖
I hope Gillian raises a ton of money for her charity and I love that D&G dress (hmmm, if only I had a few extra hundred dollars to spend on myself right now....also, was that the Letterman dress? when she talked about quitting smoking?) but those Calleen Cordero’s sandals with her toe imprints just crack me up....
Hey so who won the Skype talk?
Are they on Tumblr? Are we ever going to know how that went?! These are important questions. They should record it or something...
People are complaining about We because it is not really for "women everywhere" as it isn't for women who have been touched by war or have been displaced from their lands. Actual quote. Seriously??? What book out is for those women. How the fuck is anyone who hasn't experienced those things supposed to write a book that helps those women. People are taking the title too literally and it feels like they are just complaining to complain.
Sighhhh.
Listen, I haven’t actually read the book yet. I just got it today, & have only skimmed the first few pages. I can’t really speak to whether or not We addresses women in the situations you mentioned.
What I do know is that Gillian Anderson donates time, money, & visibility to the following charities:
SA-YES is a charity that helps displaced South African youth transition safely from care homes to independent living.
Survival International is a global non-profit that lobbies & fights for the rights of tribal people. They work to ensure that tribal people have a voice & a platform.
Childreach International works across the world, including in Africa & Asia, to stop child trafficking.
This isn’t a comprehensive list of the charities she supports, just a few examples of the ways in which she contributes her funds & visibility to help people who have been “touched by war” & “displaced from their lands.”
I’d really love to see what the people criticizing We, which was written from Gillian & Jennifer’s own experiences, are doing to help women & children in other countries – or their own countries, for that matter. It’s easy to play armchair revolutionary & nitpick other peoples’ charity.
I think you’re absolutely right, anon. These people are complaining just to complain – or they have another issue with Gillian & are using any little bullshit they can in order to bring her & her causes down. Seriously fucking sad.
P.S. I included links to all the charities mentioned, just in case those who are so concerned with what Gillian is doing for women in other countries would like to make a contribution of their own, or get involved in some other way.
WHY LORD
I ordered this shirt the day after my wife Gillian Anderson wore it to the SA-Yes benefit in Brooklyn and it literally just got here today. So excited to spread good girl power vibes and good wlw vibes and good My Wife Gillian Anderson Made Me Gay vibes and just generally good feminist vibes.
Fandom Day of Giving to Celebrate Streetcar’s Closing!
Congratulations to Gillian Anderson and the entire cast and crew on an exceptional show!
In celebration and appreciation of tonight’s closing performance of “A Streetcar Named Desire” at St. Ann’s Warehouse, let us join together as a fandom and support SA-YES.
Whether you have a dollar to spare or more, what better way to honor Gillian’s extraordinary talent and follow in her example of service than to give what you can to help those in need?
If you are so inclined, please consider donating to SA-YES this weekend (June 4/5) and know that many other Gillian fans are hopefully doing the same. Perhaps SA-YES will report to Gillian a noteworthy spike in new donors this weekend! If you aren’t able to donate money at this time, please reblog this post to spread the word.
DONATE TO SA-YES NOW!
