haha yes! I came out to my mom about it on my birthday (late April) right after I released my first book. I basically said no I’m not looking for a new job after getting fired, I write gay romance now.
My mom was surprisingly supportive (I think she was just really happy that I was including her in my life again?). My dad was a huge asshole about it at first.
But then, after the second book I released, I was making more money than I EVER HAD ever in any other job and was pretty concretely like “check this out, dad” and he didn’t really have a rejoinder.
They’ve both been HILARIOUSLY supportive ever since.
My mom started reading my books this month (after I warned her about the sheer volume of gay sex in books #2 and #4) and she......... apparently likes them? She liked the astronaut book better than the elvis impersonator book. Jury’s still out on the teacher/student book (I KIND OF NEVER WANT HER TO READ IT, THAT’S TERRIFYING, THERE’S SO MUCH EXPLICIT SEX, HELP ME).
But yeah. things are going really weirdly well with my parents. jonathan quit his job too and now he makes furniture full time. my parents have encouraged him and my dad helped him do all the paperwork to get incorporated. we’ve been getting along with my parents?????
