A quick edit while we wait for 4.26
@taylorswift, we will always have your back. You had my back last year when I reported my sexual assault to the police. The detective said to me, “Why did you wait so long to report this? It must not have been that bad.”
I was 14 when it happened.
Listening to your album made me feel like I wasn’t alone. Watching you go through the horrors of the court system made me KNOW that I wasn’t alone.
Before all of this happened, I already had huge issues with PTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder. I’ve struggled with suicide for about half my life. I know for a FACT that without your music there to help me heal, I would not have made it through 2018.
Dear John, LWYMMD, Call It What You Want, I Did Something Bad, TIWWCHNT, Last Kiss... every single song on reputation and Speak Now felt like it was there for me for a reason. Every single song had it’s exact place in the healing I needed this year. And obviously, so many of your songs from ALL albums had their perfect place too.
Thank you, you legitimately saved me, and I cannot wait to hear what you’ve put together. <3

“We live a story that originates in our autonomic state, is sent through autonomic pathways from the body to the brain, and is then translated by the brain into the beliefs that guide our daily living. The mind narrates what the nervous system knows. Story follows state." -Deb Dana, LCSW | photo: @mollyboha | The Breathe Network was founded on a belief that until the underlying physiology of the survivor is acknowledged, addressed and incorporated into therapeutic work, there would remain gross limitations to truly empowering a person’s capacity to find increasing physical, psychological and spiritual freedom from trauma’s weight. Story follows state. When you live in a body that sends you unconscious signals of being vulnerable, of needing to protect, of not truly being safe, etc. it requires all your energy, and then some, to try and quell or override those autonomic cues and somatic messages. It dampens the pain yet it dampens everything else as well. Still, we do our best with the tools we have and it’s amazing how we creatively and cleverly find a way to survive. Ultimately, though, we deserve so much more than survival. We have a right to take up space in our bodies and lives and in the world with pleasure and freedom and power. On the eve of #saam2019, and the launch of our online course which explores how we translate these concepts to better ensure yoga and meditation are safe, accessible and liberatory, we are reflecting on the tremendous growth in awareness related to trauma-informed practice, trauma resilience theory, and somatic approaches to healing. It’s a privilege and an honor to work in the field of sexual trauma healing alongside so many other survivors - survivors who are teachers, leaders, healers, artists, activists, researchers and tenacious friends. We hold each other up, we learn from and with one another and slowly but surely, we are collectively changing the “state” of the cultural “body”. The future will hold a new story, one where sovereignty, safety and cherishing one another’s precious bodies and energies justly reigns. #embodiedjustice #traumainformedmeditation #traumainformedyoga #sexualtrauma https://www.instagram.com/p/BvryhEkHG44/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1eyx1ew2kfyas
