Saattvik Indian Dhaba, 34115 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94555
There’s no shortage of Indian cafes and restaurants in the area but I’m always looking to find a reasonably priced, casual Indian café. I was drawn to the fact that they only serve vegetarian food. They also have a few vegan options. On a weekday, you’ll find various parathas, combo thalis, chaats, and fresh sweets made in house. On Fridays, they have a few specials and a live pani puri maker. There are also weekend specials like Indo-Chinese food on Saturdays and soya chaap on Sundays. While they have lassis and bottled beverages, they do not have chai.
Order at the counter. There is a $0.75 charge for orders under $10. You can pay with credit card, cash or Venmo.
Paneer thali ($10.99)i: choice of one paneer curry, one regular curry, rice and 2 tawa rotis. The food was ready quickly since the curries are kept warm on a steam table. The long grain rice was lukewarm for some reason. The steam table didn’t seem to keep the food hot enough. The paneer curry was creamy and spicy – but too salty. The aloo mutter (potatoes and peas) featured soft veggies. It was too salty.
Samosa: thin, crispy shell. The potato filling was too salty.
Saatvik is woman-owned and specializes in vegetarian Indian Punjabi food. The interior looks older and cluttered. The small tables are very close together. It’s definitely not a place to go to impress someone.
I don’t think I’ll come again since the food wasn’t hot enough and everything except the rice and roti was too salty. It’s an authentic place though, judging from all the Indian families.
