Been a while since I posted a proper AU so

I was looking at the movie design for the arena and it has some pretty big windows. And the camera(s) in the main part of the arena aren't placed in a way where you can see all around the arena. What if one of the tributes (probably Marcus and/or Sabyn since they work in construction) noticed these windows and decided they could work with this. They move deeper into the arena, causing Panlo, Sheaf, Ginnee, and Otto to not be where they were in canon and survive the bombing, while also making Facet, Velvereen, Sabyn and Marcus not run during the bombing. Back in the zoo, they enlighten the other tributes to their discovery, and a plan forms.

On the first day of the games, Lamina and Treech, the best climbers in the group, use the cover of night to climb up to the windows. Above the camera, and thus no longer visible to the Capitol, they scope out where the peacekeeper are stationed on the ground. Then they help the other tributes onto the wall using either the flag or a rope made of various clothing items like vests and possibly a few shirts, maybe even some paper bags that had been used for sponsor food. From there, escaping through the window and using that same rope (+ the flag for added length) to climb down the arena wall where the peacekeepers aren't stationed is easy as cake. Treech and Lamina hang the flag back in the arena so nothing looks out of the ordinary, and they're gone.

It takes the Capitol three days to check, since they know tributes must've died of dehydration, only to find the arena empty.

I'm curious about ma plinth knocking out Strabo and sejanus hiding sabyn

Hi! Yeah, of course! This is long though, just so you know.

Ma Plinth Knocking Out Strabo

Basically, I have a lot of conflicting and intermixing thoughts about Strabo Plinth as a character. These thoughts ranged from: 'Strabo had been doing what he had thought was the best for his family and had wanted them to have a better life with more opportunities' to 'Strabo hadn't truly thought about how his family would fare personally in the Capitol and had been too blinded by ambition' to 'Strabo betrayed his people and had sided with a culture that would never truly accept him, his intentions and reasoning for doing so were a mixture of good and bad, but had then set his family on a path that meant they spent most if not all of their remaining life isolated/rejected/hated and had then unknowingly financed his son's murderer's rise to power, who would then go on to brainwash his home District in particular and if Ma Plinth had been able to see the future and what his decisions would result in at any point of the process, then she would have hit him with her frying pan.'

It was that last thought especially that made the writer in me perk up and go, 'you, continue'.

That's how it started.

Ma Plinth doesn't have seer abilities in this one (although I am considering a separate fic of the same), but the general gist of this fic is that Sejanus, once again, snaps and decides to break the tributes out of the zoo and is hiding them in the Capitol until he can get them home (details of which including whether he has help or not are still being worked out).

Strabo however, is getting more than a little suspicious of Sejanus' behaviour in the meantime. And after a little investigating, discovers what he's up to. He immediately wants to turn them in, triggering a huge argument with Sejanus about the same.

Only for Ma Plinth to finally have enough and decides to give her cookware another use, catching both Strabo and Sejanus off-guard.

Basically:

Sejanus Hiding Sabyn

This fic starts with the Arena bombing and while Marcus still gets captured and tortured, Sabyn, Velvereen and Facet all succeed in escaping.

Sabyn however, is by herself, she survives the fall, but still isn't able to get out of the Capitol. So she's trying to hide/survive when she's found by Sejanus.

Sejanus is so relieved to see her. Yeah, Sabyn isn't Marcus, but she is still a) a kid who doesn't deserve to die, b) from District 2 and therefore home, and finally c) someone who he is able to help, so he brings her back to his apartment to hide her there until he can think of a plan to smuggle her back to District 2.

. . . It doesn't take long though for Ma Plinth to find her. And from there, Strabo. But they become involved in hiding her as well.

Strabo really isn't happy about any of this as he knows that not even their money will save them if they get caught. But he can't turn her in either, because even if he can convince Gaul and the President that he and his wife had no involvement in this, Sejanus is doomed and he's not about to screw over his own son.

From there, the main plot focus on Sabyn's dynamic with each of the Plinths, including a showdown/conversation with Strabo about what he did in the Rebellion.

There are also two B plots currently being planned, but may or may not make the cut.

B Plot 1: Velvereen and Facet trying to survive in the Capitol and figure out a way home, while plotting revenge on their Mentors (particularly Livia, who is demanding Facet's return so she can win her Prize).

B Plot 2: Some of the Mentors, inspired by the way the other tributes were able to run away/not get caught and not wanting their tributes to die, start scheming up ways to get them out.

Halloween costumes❤️❤️❤️

Lamina makes Treech dress up as a fancy vampire because she’s a little too into Twilight at the moment (but don’t worry she matches with him)

Coral has the creepiest horror makeup and makes all the little kids cry. Mizzen goes as a sailor covered in starfish.

Tanner is the Cheshire Cat (I HAVE REASONS AND I WILL TELL YOU ABOUT IT IF YOU ASK) and begs Brandy to be the Mad Hatter or something. She refuses and doesn’t dress up.

Lucy Gray goes as Maria from West Side Story (hehe…) and Jessup goes as a ghost by wearing a bedsheet over his head (he panicked last minute)

Reaper and Dill duo and do Batman and Robin. Dill is Batman.

Wovey either goes as a cowboy/cowgirl or barbie. She keeps changing her mind every day. Bobbin goes as the Winter Soldier even though he’s missing the wrong arm.

Teslee and Circ dress up as some kind of electric thing. Idk the names of anything but they have crazy special effects to make them light up.

Facet and Velvereen are a prince and princess ofc, Marcus doesn’t dress up and just hands out candy, Sabyn is a black cat.

Sol and Hy go as Shaggy and Scooby Doo because that’s what Sol insisted on. Sol was Scooby.

Otto goes as a dog, and Ginnee is also a princess. Panlo and Sheaf don’t dress up😔

i’ve never really considered how their relationships might have been negatively impacted by his issues with sejanus! i really liked that though.

i also really liked the way sabyn tried to ally with the d1 kids and tried to make a plan!

also that last part 😭 would sabyn have been alive….

i wonder now what would have happened had the two been able to escape together. would they still have been found? both strung up on the beam?

or would they have made somewhere. maybe not back to 2, but somewhere. maybe out of panem.

Since in this post I said that I think at least some of the peacekeepers that came to grab the tributes during the arena bombing came from outside, I had an idea for how all the tributes could escape from the city.

What if, instead of running for the exit, the district 1 and 2 kids saw the tunnels blasted open and went in there instead? Ginnee and Otto survived by sheer luck of the bombs going off a little earlier, and their mentors were saved by peacekeepers. This works because of a thing @idontliketomatoesleavemealone pointed out about them wearing armor which would protect them at least a little. They are out of it, though, because blows to the head suck. Ginnee and Otto, like Panlo and Sheaf, end up greatly injured and are denied medical care. Here’s where the fun begins (for me at least, if you like Hurt No Comfort this is not for you):

Thanks to the peacekeepers coming in from outside and the tunnels being so much closer than the exit, the four escapee tributes make it out. Sabyn, Velvereen, Facet, and Marcus are on the run. They could try to escape the city and forget all about this, but… those other kids don’t deserve to die, and leaving them to their fate feels… cruel. And also, escaping the city is exactly what the Capitol expects them to do so going along with it makes it more likely for them to be caught. So they get out of the tunnels and figure out where the zoo is. Marcus clearly didn’t disguise himself, but now there are three other kids there to come up with ideas. Facet and Velvereen suggest they try to look more like Capitol kids so it’s more likely people won’t look at them twice. While they’re at it they snag some supplies for short-term disguises and then wait until it’s late to go over to the zoo.

Now, these kids may not have the best mentors (cough cough Livia Cardew cough cough) but they can see some of the others starting to care about their tributes. And these influential nepo-babies are the future of Panem. The four free tributes have had time to think things through, and the last thing they wanna do is hand the Capitol propaganda on a silver platter and turn their only hope of ending the games for good against them. In terms of trying to convince their overlords the tributes are human beings too, killing peacekeepers means they may as well confess to cannibalism and skinning puppies for fun. Also, it would be justification for the Capitol calling this an all hands on deck situation and throw everything into finding the tributes, which is the last thing they need. So the four escapees refrain from brutal murder and instead merely knock out the ones too close to the enclosure for comfort. They take some of the guns, though, because they’re not stupid enough to actually believe their attempts at showing innocence will do anything and they’d rather be armed if it comes down to the worst-case scenario.

Next they break open the zoo enclosure and wake up their fellow district kids inside. Some frantic whispering later and everyone’s awake and ready to leave. The four injured kids and Dill get carried on the backs of the stronger kids for obvious reasons, and off they go. I’ll stop here and consider collecting my ideas for the rest of their shenanigans in this City of Nightmares in a separate post because I have plans.

Yes, it does involve arson. No, Gaul’s lab does not survive. Possibly, neither does she.

That last bit is not entirely on the tributes.
