The other day I performed my first euthanasia since stay at home was implemented in my state. We’ve been all curbside except for teaching (well) owners how to do SQ fluids and for euthanasia. I know some clinics have stopped allowing owners in and I did consider that and offer it, especially knowing sometimes humans aren’t being able to visit loved ones in hospital, but I don’t want to debate right or wrong on this post.

In this case I couldn’t bear to have this long-time client wait outside, and let them come in wearing gown, gloves, cap, mask and face shield (as I was) and we kept our distance. It was sad and powerfully strange to sit at the other end of the room and not be able to clasp a shoulder or give a hug at the end.

I hate so many ways this virus has upended our lives. This was a small way it upended mine. 😢
