2008 Scacciadiavoli Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG
Opening Christmas season with this wine from one of the oldest wineries in Montefalco DOCG. “Scacciadiavoli” literally means “to cast out the devil” and this winery apparently got its name from a reclusive Shaman who was known for using the local wine during his exorcisms. My humans just use this wine to deal with me on Mondays after holidays. Big and bold on the nose with plums, cherries, blackberries, leather, deep wood, and aged balsamic. Dark cherries and dark plums on the palate with dark tea tannins, leather, and wood. You can definitely get a sense of the alcohol. This wine makes you want to grab a bite of italian cured meat, or perhaps a filleto al tartufo (steak with truffles).
