It was still dark when Saiel carefully extracted himself from the bed, an hour or more before dawn. The single arcane lamp glowing in the corner provided wan, but sufficient light, allowing him to creep to the stand across the room where his armor rested.
He dressed in silence, long familiarity with the buckles and straps of his armor causing the task to only take a few minutes on a normal occassion. This morning, however, he all but held his breath with each soft creak the leather issued, his eyes trained on the bed. His care dragged the process out, but as neither one of the bed's occupents so much as stirred, he considered the delay well worth it.
Daggers, throwing knives, illusion dust... even the last minute addition of a pair of dog biscuits. He rechecked each pouch that he had checked countless times over the past few days before starting for the door, rather than risk having to come back for anything and chance waking Cievian and Kriann.
On soft feet, he crossed the thick carpet, unlatching the door with exaggerated care. As he slipped out into the hall, he looked one last time toward the bed to find Cievian watching him, his expression unreadable in the darkness. For just a moment, a stab of guilt pierced Saiel at his lack of goodbye, and he looked away, quashing the seed and pulled the door shut behind him. The sound of its latching echoed loudly in his head.
Tick Tock
Helloo nurse. Yes, hello, I need healing. You’re so hot I’ve got first-degree burns on my heart.
… That was fucking terrible.
