The angst potential for comedic anime Saiki K No Pi San is so peak
Spoilers for the anime TDLOSK!!!
TW: this post contains mentions of SA, incest, abuse, SH, suicidal thoughts/actions, and various topics of mental health.
We all grown to love the anime TDLOSK and it's quirky cast, but whenever I rewatch it, I think to myself how absolutely insane it would be if the anime wasn't a comedy.
There's a lot to unpack so this will be split up into parts.
The first part: Character changes.
The way certain characters behave after certain events happen to them would differ vastly if it wasn't a comedy anime. I'll be focusing on the main cast as going into a deep dive for every character would be far too complicated.
Kusuo Saiki: Ah yes, Kusuo Saiki, out beloved nonchalant psychic trying to live a normal life. First major change is that Kusuo would certainly be suffering from a variation of depression and some degree of imposter syndrome. Kusuo canonically already feels the burden of having to save the world and his friends as a psychic, and he also carries the burden of owning such powerful abilities in the first place. I'd imagine his child like naivety would've been gone within three years as he slowly processed what the thoughts of the adults around him actually meant. The reality shattering moment would've impacted him for hjs whole life. And yet his family life isn't so test canonically either.
Kusuo's older brother, kusuke, always feels the need to outsmart him. And yet kusuke belittles him, calling him a monster due to his abilities and attempts to kill him with no mercy and harm his friends. Kusuo would surely have trauma of his own older brother attempting to assassinate him at each turn. This would lead to severe trust issues, even if he can read minds of others.
Oh, and remember how I mentioned the burden of saving the world on his shoulders? Well, Kusuo canonically feels obligated to save those he knows would suffer because he CAN save them. And if he didn't save them, the guilt would haunt him forever. Yet the show as a comedy glazes over the fact. If the show wasn't a comedy, Kusuo would certainly be burnt out and paranoid at the thought of not being able to save a life he knew he could 100% save. This is also why he doesn't fully give up his abilities in Saiki k reawaken. Oh, and did I mention Kusuo trapped himself in a time loop? Kusuo is year two of high school for over eleven years now, yet no one can understand his pain. He's once again burdened with saving the world from a volcano for over eleven years. And once he does stop the volcano, what does he do now? He certainly tried to move on but it would feel strange to move on after eleven full ears of repeating. Watching everyone get old as (HEAD CANNON) his powers grow exponentially. It might be theorized that he becomes immortal or slow to death compared to his friends so he watches them drop dead one by one. Maybe he knows that's what would happen. Maybe that's why he distances himself. But kusuo is also confused and angry at himself canonically.
Kusuo is angry that he can't understand social cues at times despite knowing their existence.
He hates that he will never feel the pleasure of a nice surprise or a laugh with friends as he can't experience it truly like the others do.
Kusuo will never know what it's like to be human.
Cause he simply isn't one.
Can he even be considered a human when he posseses supernatural abilities and doesn't have the whole meaning of being a human?
He can't possibly be real.
At least that's what he would think.
Kusuo would slowly feel like an imposter and a monster as he walks amongst his friends and hears them laugh heartily.
Kusuo is indeed the most unhappiest boy alive.
AHEM ANYWAYS
Cutting this analysis short as ts getting realllllly long
Next post will be about our beloved goddess, Kokomi Teruhashi :3
Imagine that every time Kusou runs into Makoto he has a trauma response from how his brother treated him since Makoto and Kuusuke are so similar. I just think that would be interesting

Saiki K Angst fanfic concept
I have an idea for a saiki k fanfiction, and I want to know whether or not I should write it. Here’s the gist of it:
Saiki is tired. So, so tired. He's tired of being a psychic, tired of having to restrain himself and his growing powers at every moment, tired of god hating him and having to fix every problem and having to be at his families beck and call. Saiki, can you teleport me to work? Saiki, can you play rock paper scissors with me? Saiki, can you get ramen with me? Saiki, can you battle the dark reunion with me? Saiki, can you say oh wow for me? He's so, so tired. So, when Kusuke finally succeeds making a pair of limiters that renders Saiki mortal, he knows exactly what he wants to do as a no longer invincible man. And it's something that he has been planning for a long, long time. TL;DR Saiki tries to off himself, but as usual his friends get in the way.
Should I write it?
An Argument (saiki k x omori)
Wrote a little fic for my saiki k x omori au, it's pretty dark and very spoiler-y if you haven't played omori. Enjoy
