Okay I finally made a pinned introduction post.

Welcome to anyone who has made it this far, you can call me Vera, EB, or my full username. I consider myself the number zero Azrael scholar. For those unfamiliar with the dark age of comic books, that’s similar to number one, only it’s a zero.

Nowadays this blog is mostly abandoned, considering that I find it useless to me. Expect nothing from me, save for the occasional chapter post and a couple reblogs.

As my top text states, this blog is one dedicated to Dennis O’Neil’s Azrael and his universe. While it’s not the only thing I talk about here, it will probably continue to be the primary focus. In fact, let’s talk Azrael a bit more, shall we?

Too Long, Didn’t Read: Azrael, created in 1992, is the ambiguously-real angelic alternate personality of Jean-Paul Valley, brainwashed programmed former cult assassin, who was also the third person to hold the title of Batman, twice over, once from June 1993 to August 1994 and once from March 2002 to January 2003. His original story is a long, complex, and tragic narrative, spanning over a decade and establishing a mythos and sphere of the DC universe entirely of his own.

You can read his introduction in Batman: Sword Of Azrael (December 1992-March 1993), and continue with the Knightfall crossover story from there (Vengeance Of Bane, Knightfall, Knightquest, KnightsEnd, Prodigal, Troika, and Vengeance Of Bane II), followed by the 100+ issues of Azrael 1995 (December 1995-May 2003). From there, you can choose any of his future appearances to check out.

Random Azrael Headcanon

Since TV was the work of the devil and there were no children’s books in the Order of Saint Dumas, the only thing Jean-Paul Valley was allowed to watch growing up was “Fruit Stories”, a really bad Saint Dumas Veggietales ripoff puppet show. 

When he grows up and leaves the cult, he finally encounters Veggietales and it goes like this:

“I can’t believe they ripped off Fruit Stories!”

“...JPV, what are you talking about?”

“You know, Fruit Stories! With Rob the Peach and Harry the Zucchini! And look, there’s the Spanish Grapes!”

The Bat family decide he needs to watch the actual Veggietales so they can see his reaction. It’s a horrible idea. Now he watches nothing but Veggietales.
