BROTHER NIC: 1) what are their feelings on sex/physical intimacy under influence (alcohol / drugs)? (lmao maybe in a "is it a sin" context) 2) is there anything that always turns them on? what about something that would certifiably ruin the mood?

Nic does not inherently think drinking and, say, ~smoking the elfroot~ are inherently bad--he's fantasy!Catholic, after all; he drinks--but getting drunk and high can definitely lead to sinful decisions. Plying a partner with drugs or alcohol to get them to have sex with you? Definitely a sin. Allowing yourself to get so messed up under the influence that you coerce someone into doing something they don't want to do? Please don't come to him in confession and claim the drink made you do it; there's still a chain of decisions in there that you've got to claim some responsibility for.

As for when the parties involved make a sober decision to use substances during the act?

(He doesn't get it, personally, especially when there's no apparent avoidance or relationship discord it seems to be painting over. Like, come on. Don't you want to be in control of your faculties and fully into what's going on? Don't you want to avoid doing anything stupid you might later regret no that's not speaking from experience why would you even think that--)

When an attractive woman hugs him and he feels her stays pressing up against his chest (or, better yet, unbound boobs.) This is why he tends to confine his greetings to a chaste arm-hold which Leaves Room for Andraste, lol.

Religious kink. Do not try that 'ohhhh Brother I've been soooo naughty please hear my confession' shit on him; he finds it both grossly sacrilegious and kind of like asking a doctor to do medical play after they've spent the day seeing a full caseload of patients. Oh, and it's objectifying besides. If you're going to flirt with him (Nic: please don't flirt with me), try some personalized compliments instead.

I'm going to initiate the brand new blorbo on this, who you can find out more about here! His name is Nicaise, he's a Chantry brother, and a character in @nirikeehan's You Take the Dread Wolf AU.

Face

Nic's a pretty soft-featured, average-looking guy, with not much of a jawline and kind of a stubby nose, lol. He could probably pull off a beard quite well, but keeps his face clean-shaven in line with the fashion norms of Orlesians in religious life, which tend to emphasize cleanliness and eschew Trendy Looks.

Of his siblings, he's the one who most closely resembles his father, to the point that his mother likes to joke that you can't tell he's her kid, lol.

Hair

Nic's hair normally isn't visible on account of him wearing his religious habit, and it's got a bit of a natural curl if he lets it grow, so he tends to clip it quite short all around. It's dirty blonde and starting to recede above the temples.

Eyes

His eyes have sort of a blue-green quality, depending on the light.

Clothes

Nic's generally dressed in his religious habit! You can find me going on about its components in this post, but here's some illustrative screencaps.

I imagine there are practical adaptations to account for different types of work and weather: for instance, less ornate versions of the scapular, a belt to tie it back and keep it from flopping around, a brimmed version of the hat, and a cloak for winter.

When not in his habit--such as when traveling through an area where it might be dangerous to identify himself as someone in religious life--he dresses in plain, functional clothing.

13. What's the most memorable compliment they've ever been given?

As a scholar? Nic won an award for a series of articles he wrote about the folk iconography of Inessa of Perendale, a Nevarran mystic, and in the award announcement his writing was described as "the kind of insightful interpretation of the sacred that comes about once in a generation." He, uh. May have a copy of that tacked up in his room, lol.

As a man? Gracienne once told him (during a time when he was struggling with some religious guilt) that he had a beautiful soul. That lives in his head rent-free.

4. What's an item that is deeply important and special to them? What makes it so special?

Part of Nic's religious practice as a Chantry brother involves structured prayer--I headcanon that folks living in cloistered communities carry out a more elaborate routine resembling the Liturgy of the Hours, but Nic is only beholden to a three times a day requirement. To do that, he uses an Andrastian breviary, and the one he has that's most special to him is an illuminated copy that was gifted to him by a mentor when he professed his final vows. It's not fully handcrafted in the medieval way--more like printed text with hand-drawn illustrations--but the illustrations are true to the historical art form, complete with gold leaf and other such embellishments.

It's easily the most expensive thing Nic owns, something his peasant family would never have been able to afford, and particularly meaningful in what it represented. Nic struggled for a number of years in seminary, both due to bullying from his high-born counterparts and his needing to fill in gaps from his somewhat spotty primary education, to the point that he delayed taking final vows to ensure he had serious scholarly work he could depart with. Getting such a beautiful work of art from an established scholar who had supervised him was an affirmation that yes, he was ready; yes, he was worthy; yes, he was just as accomplished as those rich kids who had graduated out before him, laden with armfuls of expensive religious gifts. It was an affirmation of his own legitimacy and intellectual potential, and thus he treasures it.

21. What's their dream date like?

Probably an excursion to an art museum or locally venerated pilgrimage site--some place Nic can nerd out about sacred art and popular piety and maybe impress his date a little with his knowledge. Afterward, a nice dinner, some shared evening prayer, and a retreat to a comfortable place where he can just sit and talk to her in relative privacy--a secluded garden, a warm seat in front of a fireplace, that sort of thing. (There would also be some kissing and cuddling, of course. Maybe more, if this were some sort of imagined established relationship. He, uh, tries not to ponder this stuff too much.)

34. What do they taste like when kissed?

LOL probably tea, maybe coffee if he's been particularly tired or out visiting a café. Maybe some fresh herbs like mint if he were expecting to be kissed (possible, if he were visiting his very affectionate family.) He's pretty attentive about cleanliness.
