Today we celebrate the Holy and Glorious Apostle Philip the Evangelist, one of the Seven Deacons. This Saint Philip is not to be confused with Apostle Philip of the 12 Apostles. Philip the Evangelist was chosen as one of seven Deacons (among whom the first was the Protomartyr Stephen). He attended to the needs of the widows, the orphans, and the needy. Having lived in Samaria for some time, he converted many of their people. He also travelled all the way to Ethiopia where he converted and baptised the Queen's eunuch. Having preached all over the Near Eastern lands, the Holy Apostle Philip reposed in peace. It is also noteworthy to mention that one of his daughters was the Unmercenary Saint Hermione who is mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles.
