Little snippet of a BoaF flash fiction thing that I might try finish. It takes place in the story’s canon, but isn’t in the main novel.

Shilo huffed as she slowly lowered herself into the cool dirt. It was June, and the hottest day of the year so far. She’d just spent four humid, humid hours weeding and watering the vegetable garden (which she was determined to keep alive this year!) A sharp whistle caused her to pick herself up.

“Lookin’ hot, Shi,” Saiph said, coming out from the sunroom with two ice cold lemonades in hand.

“Feeling hot,” she replied, happily taking the lemonade from her boyfriend’s clawed hands. She downed the whole thing in two sips. “I think I’m dying,” she groaned and collapsed back into the ground.

“Oh no,” Saiph chuckled, “what am I gonna do without you?” He brought a hand to his head in mock distress.

“You’re gonna weed the garden is what you’re gonna do,” Shilo said, pointing a finger at him. “I swear to god, if I die trying to keep these stupid tomatoes alive, I’m haunting everyone. You’re getting the full poltergeist treatment.”
