Lilith stared at the clock, carefully counting the seconds until the bell released them from their learning prison so they could go to lunch. She was in her English class learning something about Greek mythology. It was probably another story about how the God's couldn't agree on anything for ten minutes. Ugh.
Lilith was a 14-year-old girl with a bandage on her cheek and spunky black hair. She wore a white dress shirt with a gradient blue skirt, blue knee-highs, a faded red tie, and black Mary-Jane's.
After about a minute of staring at the clock and blocking out her teacher's rambling, the bell rang. Everyone in the classroom (including Lilith) began packing up their things and grabbing their bags. The teacher waved goodbye to all her students before sitting down in her chair and sighing.
It was the same for Leo. He was in science class, studying the periodic table with his other classmates. The bell startled him as it rang, making him drop his paper he was working on. He scrambled to pick it up and turned it in on his teacher's desk. His teacher smiled at him and hoped he had a good day.
Leo was a 15-year-old boy with spiky brown hair. He also wore a white dress shirt that was tucked into black dress pants. He had a slightly tinted green bandage across the bridge of his nose and a green tie.
He grabbed his things, quickly shoved them into his bag, telling himself that he'd organize it later and made his way out the door and to the cafeteria.
Samantha (better known as Sam) was in math class learning about two-step inequalities. As good as she was with them, she never understood why they were called 'two-step inequalities'. There's obviously more than two steps, so why name it that? Whatever. She didn't care anymore because the bell had rung. And as soon as the bell rang, she didn't have to think about it anymore. At least not until tomorrow. Or when she had to do homework.
Sam was a dark-skinned 16-year-old girl with a dark brown afro that covered 1 eye. She had a white dress-shirt under a black hoodie, a red jacket over said hoodie (she was very layered), a black skirt, red knee-highs with an orange stripe, black mary-jane's, and some black earrings.
She packed up her things, took out her phone, and began to make her way to lunch area.
Lilith was the first one to make it to the lunch table all her friends usually sat at. She placed her lunch tray down and began to examine what she had just picked up. On her tray was some mac n' cheese, a bread roll, pudding, and apple juice.
To be honest, she really only cared for the mac n' cheese.
Just as she finished examining her food, Sam and Leo sat next to her, leaving her in between them. She waved 'hello' to them. Sam waved back, unwrapping her tamale. Lilith stared at her food in semi-disbelief. "They had tamales??" Lilith said, looking between Sam's food and the counter where other students were getting their food. Sam bit into her food and nodded. "Yeah, I got the last one. Why didn't you get one?"
Lilith took a bite of her mac n' cheese. "I thought those were the nasty pull-apart-bread things!" Sam scoffed dramatically to be funny. "I don't know about you, but I love the pull-aparts," she took another bite of her tamale. "You just don't have taste."
Leo laughed at their banter. He grabbed his bag and pulled out his lunch bag (he didn't usually eat school lunch). He opens it and pulls out a plastic bag full of green juice. He grabs a straw and puts it in the bag, closes it, and begins to drink out of it. He looks over and sees the girls staring at him.
"What?" he asked, continuing to drink out of his baggie. Lilith gave him a stank eye before laughing a little. "Why are you drinking out of a bag?"
"Why not?" He responds, continuing to slurp away at his drink. Sam rolled her eyes and put her fingers in the bridge of her nose before also laughing a bit. "I'm not even gonna argue with you this time. You do you, I guess."
Lilith laughed a lot louder that time. For the rest of lunch, the trio did nothing but chat. They chatted about their assignments, the teachers they did and didn't like, rumors about what happens when staff isn't around, and things going on outside of school.
Their conversation was all over the place, but they didn't care. They're having fun. In fact, it was the best part of their day.
