Why is Mack getting his contract negotiations this year and Will next year?? Shouldn’t it be the same

Hey! SOOOO. They are both on 3-year ELCs signed in 2024. Which technically takes them to the end of next season. BUT they can start negotiating contracts on July 1st (this is a league wide date). And then sign anytime before their ELC. I am assuming if you have read something on Reddit its because Mack is a MUCH bigger fish. He will have a far bigger contract which affects the Sharks overall cap. So Will would always be signed shortly after or anytime after Mack. They need to know how much money they pay Mack before they can figure out anyone else.

Think of your household budget. Have to figure out the cost of the mortgage before you can figure out how much of a car payment you can afford.

Now see this is the type of humor we need around here. I have done a few negoshies posts but to recap.

Mack will negotiate first. He is the bigger star and they need his salary known before other salaries are considered.

They may not negotiate right away (have until next year) but I suspect sometime this offseason chats will start.

I am fairly certain Mack will go bridge contract (2-4 years) so he can ensure he gets to max out his salary as league caps increase. BUT I could be wrong and he could do an 8-year McDavid style.

Haha ohhhh probably not anon. Salary caps will prevent someone like McDavid and Mack existing on the same team. I mean they'd have to offload alot of mid-career players, take alot of kids on ELCs and then maybe they could? But it is still highly unlikely. This is just my dream we are living in.

Bankers are using "sneaky" ways of avoiding the European Union's new cap on bonus sizes, a think tank has claimed.

The High Pay Centre predicted bankers would enjoy yet another bumper year of bonuses while other workers saw their wages stagnate.

It comes as banks prepare to pay bonuses for last year's performance.

The British Bankers Association said bonuses were now

"smaller" and rewarded sound, long-term decision making.

The UK government is currently preparing a legal challenge to an EU cap on bonuses which limits payouts to 100% of basic salary.

The cap is designed to come into effect on bonuses awarded from 2014.

Banks have been accused of raising basic salaries to compensate for lower bonuses in response to the EU-wide cap.

Some banks have introduced a new role-based payment to top up overall pay packets for senior staff.

Panic stricken!!! I've got 13 years to get this show no the road. Sure there are exceptions to every rule, but it's certainly something to think about. Good luck.

Dad and I had a chat last night

about salary caps in baseball. Thoughts?

At first, I said "no way". Those guys work their asses off every day of the year (minus CC Sabbathia and his 2 boxes of Cap'n Crunch a day) and have to do a whole lot of crap that isn't as glamorous as we think it is. They also are held to a higher standard to be a role model (which I disagree with. They signed up to be athletes and shouldn't have to worry about being held to a higher standard but that's an argument for another time). Where I don't think they should get the MILLIONS that they get, I didn't think (at first) that there should be a cap.

Then my dad brought up a good point. We should have salary caps. It isn't fair that teams like the Pirates aren't ever going to be in the running because they can't afford the big name players. It would be cool to see these true underdogs in the playoffs. As much as I love the Red Sox (and always want them to win), I think that all teams should have equal ground when starting the year. Big teams like that Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies, etc always have a headstart before the season even starts because they can afford to stack their teams while the other ones can't.

This wasn't written as eloquently as I'd like, but oh well. That's what I've got. What are your thoughts?
