Question: What is Jesus trying to communicate in Matthew 7:13 when He states, "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter it."?
Answer: Jesus Christ was trying to tell us that the way to salvation is very narrow. Noah, for example, was the only righteous person in his generation (Genesis 6:9, 7:1). Joshua and Caleb were the only righteous ones out of over two million people that had left Egypt at the time (Numbers 1:45–46, 14:24, 32:10–12). Jesus Christ knew that, because Satan the Devil is the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:3–4), in order to be righteous, you have to overcome all of the traps that he has set, by knowing the truth, which most people don’t know, and then being able to overcome the things mentioned in Galatians 5:19–21, 1 Corinthians 5:11, 6:9–10 and Romans 1:28–32, both in our hearts and in the outside world. It is only when we do this, and defeat all the enemies around us (2 Corinthians 10:3–6), that we have went through the narrow road, and salvation is ours (Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 26).

outside premodern ontology, premodern theology does not do anything spectacular
Athanasius says that (1) “if the works of the divinity of the Word had not taken place through a body, humanity would not have been made divine", and that (2) if the properties of the flesh had not been ascribed to the Word, humanity would not have been thoroughly freed from them (McGrath 2016, “Christian Theology Reader, An Introduction.” Wiley Blackwell, 289).
God performs a double movement: from within human nature, God performs divine works. And from his own nature, God adopts human properties.
The function of this double movement is to “reconcile” human beings to God and by such reconciliation, atone them.
How does reconciliation work?
(1) First, when God indwells the human being, by doing divine works, that human being pushes outward, or transcends itself. An individual might perform a rearrangement of her elements through some special activity. This might be true about the special individual Jesus. In premodern ontology, this is supposed to help all human beings by using the individual Jesus as a “lever”:
If a member of a set (humans) transcends itself, then the “ontological principle” of humans beings is altered. If the ontological “principle” or “type” is also the ontological support or source, then once their ontological principle is changed, so will be all individuals’.
The problem with this interpretation is that it commits us to a pre-modern ontology. Is there any other way to conceive of redemption?
Alternatively, God might directly indwell in each of us. Jesus would only be a role model telling us how to perform the same activity that he performed.
The problem with this interpretation is that the kind of indwelling might be weaker in some of us than in the special individual Jesus. And then the final outcome for that particular individual would be equally weak.
(2) The second statement says that God is supposed to redeem man by adopting humanity's properties. In this sense God is "honoring" man by proving him worthy of imitation. In premodern ontology this is again working through a lever upon the nature of all living individuals.
If we abandon that ontology in favor of the nominalist view according to which individuals are prior to the type, then God only seems able to change individuals' self-perception or self-interpretation as a consequence of His evaluation of them. He provides a success case to look up to, Jesus, and that is supposed to encourage us. Redemption might then be possible for each of us through bootstrapping individual self-expectations.
How convincing is this? Outside the premodern ontological framework, the double movement does not seem able to do anything metaphysically special. Salvation seems all too contingent on the individual’s will.
I'm Apostolic Pentecostal and my pastor's daughter who is the leader in our worship department at our church was asking me some questions the other day and I got kinda caught off guard by how little I knew about my doctrine. I've only been in this for about a year and I'm 21 now, but I pray daily and I seek the face of God daily, and I thought I knew everything there was to know but honestly I didn't. What are some key scriptures I could study on about the salvation/modesty/tongues?
Rather than give you a couple of verses, I am going to recommend a couple of books for you that not only explain the doctrines more fully, but also go into the verses more deeply than I can do at this time. The Oneness of God and the New Birth will probably cover most of your questions, but the books by Lori Wagner and Gwyn Oakes are studies on modesty. They are all available in paperback and electronic reader format, and can be purchased for under $10 each on Amazon. They can also be found at the Pentecostal Publishing House.

A kid died in a car accident this morning and this is just something...that I've been feeling. I hate death,it sucks,its mean,its unforgiving. But there is a silver lining. Salvation. I've never been more thankful for my salvation than I am ,right here in this moment... Where death and dying seems all too real,where pain and sorrow is only a gunshot,car crash, phone call away. People that we love are taken away from us by accidents and circumstances that we can't explain. Our tears feel like they'll never stop, our hearts feel like they'll always be full and heavy...of sorrow and sadness from seeing the ones we love so dearly..depart for the next life and leave is behind. To pick up the pieces of our broken heart and move on without them by our side but always in our minds as a constant memory of the love we lost. When it seems like its only going to get bleaker,like our sun will never shine again. Jesus jumps to my mind and we realize that hope does exist, true,immeasurable,unexplainable joy has come in the form of a baby to save us from the encroaching sadness that wraps around us. He's cone to free us from the sorrows of death and to enter into a life with him where there is NO pain, NO hurt, NO loss, NO crying and most of all NO death!!! Death where is your sting,Grave your victory,Jesus holds the key! Oh Yes He lived. And that means,we will meet again.
