meeting shuichi on a dating show

shuichi initially didn't want to take part in this dating show, but he got signed up by a friend and pressured to try it out

though in retrospective, he's happy he ended up attending the show, as it was where he met you!

the premise was rather simple: 16 contestants were living together and each week one to two people got voted out!

at first, shuichi assumed he'd get voted out early on, but perhaps it was because he was so unassuming that he managed to stay on the show for far longer than expected

though that turned out to be a good thing, as he got to spend more time with you due to that!

while you were both unassuming at first, you slowly began to win over the audience and as everyone began to get voted out, the two of you remained in the game

both of you knew that the audience was expecting the two of you to end up together, yet you weren't quite sure how the other one felt about you

sure, you got along well, but was there a chance you could be more than just friends?

it took until the final of the show, with the two of you to being the last contestants around, that you finally confessed to each other

knowing there were cameras on you as you tried to find the right words to confess your love was a strange feeling, but all that mattered in the end was that you felt the same way about each other!

a/n: literally no one asked for them. but when inspiration hits me i gotta do what I wanna do

➼ Just like in Salmon mode, Kaede teaches Shuichi how to play the piano.

➼ Shuichi gets special seats at Kaede’s concerts. Kaede often feels a little self - conscious whenever she’s assigned outfits she feels that she doesn’t pull off as well as others who wear the outfit, so Shuichi’s often a sweetheart and comforts her to make her feel better.

➼ He’s such a praise - giver. He loves Kaede’s piano works and he always brings flowers to hand off to her after concerts.

➼ Whenever Shuichi’s stressed, Kaede kisses him on the forehead and forces him to take a break and relax a bit.

➼ The more romantic, cheesy couple. They do things traditionally with a little added flair.

➼ While in high school when dating, they’d have ‘study dates’ and such - even though they’d both have a hard time doing any actual work.

➼ Hugs and kisses are a must. Whenever one’s having a particularly stressful / bad day, cuddles are given from the other - the feeling of warmth and comfort in the embraces being enough to forget life’s hardships.

➼ They try cooking and baking a lot together. With Shuichi’s logical, sharp mind and Kaede’s skilled fingers and flexibility - they make good partners when it comes to making food to satisfy the both of them.

➼ PDA always gets initiated by Kaede. It’s never too heavy or overwhelming, usually just light touches and soft kisses on the cheek or lips. Shuichi, no matter how far into the relationship, always manages to get out a small blush or more whenever the gestures are put into action.

➼ Shuichi, later into the relationship, starts giving out more PDA to Kaede. But his favorite moments are when the both of them are mostly alone.

➼ Overall such a loving, supportive couple.

“What’s this supposed to be?” Oma asked, his lips pursed in an unimpressed moue of disdain as he opened the top corner, poured sweet crystals into his palm. As Saihara watched, he tilted his hand and poured it in a fine stream past his face, staring at it with half-lidded eyes. “Is this meant to be your latest tribute to my majesty or something?” “Tribute? It’s...it’s sugar.” Saihara shrugged helplessly. “You like sweets, right? And you can use it in tea-” “Sure. But I’ll tell you what this is.” Oma set the bag down on the table with a faint thud. “It’s, like, half of a do-it-yourself kit for the kind of thing I actually wanna eat. Wow, it’s like you totally know me!”

~ lovingdefiance, "Sugar" This author quite simply cannot write a bad fic. Their characterization is on point, the pacing is perfect, and the Saiouma dynamic encompasses everything we all love about the ship. “Sugar” starts out with Shuichi gifting Kokichi a bag of sugar from the Monomono machine, and Kokichi promptly demands a more acceptable tribute— so Shuichi starts making him desserts with it instead, with the help of a new character each chapter. There’s plenty of humor and lighthearted antics to go around, and the engaging descriptions of making and eating tasty food will make you want to take up baking yourself. Seriously, put down whatever you’re doing and get over there; this is a must-read. The fic is rated M for depiction of a hand-feeding kink, but I respectfully disagree: the content described is so mild it’s barely noticeable, there’s no description of arousal or sexual intent, and there’s nothing about the fic that would make me uncomfortable recommending it to a minor (the worst you’ll see is a passing innuendo). Props to lovingdefiance for erring on the side of a higher rating, but we’ll give this one a T.

not me thinking about the ends of Kokichi's FTE and SME and how they parallel one another

like- the handshake thing is this symbolistic indicator of the character development Kokichi has as he goes through his events, and like it's always on my mind cause it's just so- yes.

Kokichi starting out in his FTE threatening and manipulating shuichi into hanging out with him, then throwing games to make sure Shuichi always wins. Him testing that growing bond by getting himself hurt, seeing if Shuichi would care enough to help him despite everything, and saying "i stole your heart, so now i'm satisfyed" as his own Kokichi way of saying "kay you past my paranoia induced test, we're friends now" THEN HIM STILL BEING TOO PARANOIED TO SHAKE SHUICHI'S HAND AND RUNNING OFF IN A PANIC.

Then in his SME all his best options are indulging in childish behavior and just goofing off for the hell of it, not worrying about anything else. And the answer to his Harmonious heart being to just let him keep lying cause that's what makes him feel safe, and he seems to really appreciate Shuichi trying to do things someone else's way for once. And the "ya gotta think back and remember the right thing question" for Kokichi was a trick question and all it did was remind Shuichi that Kokichi is a lair and always will be- no matter how much he lets someone in.

then the fucking mirrored scene where Kokichi offered Shuichi his hand to shake- AND THAT LAST FUCKING LINE FROM SHUICHI "HE CAN LIE ABOUT ALOT OF THINGS, BUT HE CAN'T HIDE THE WARMTH OF HIS HAND" AND HOW IT BASICALLY MEANS KOKICHI IS STILL HUMAN DESPITE HIS MISGIVINGS AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH AND NOT JUST THE LOCAL PEST
