🪰greenheadflyyyy follow ♻️
It gets really hot out here in the summer, so be sure to wear short sleeves and shorts! Have a good field season!

Couldn’t agree more, can’t wait to see you out here!

I third all of this, it also applies when working on the marsh’s forested margins (lovely habitat, you should visit!).

man CAUGHT and MEASURED me yesterday, I think he also put some sort of tag on me? Absolute pervert I hope he dies and the crabs eat his wretched flesh since I know my fellow fish wouldn’t.
🦀Baltimorekreb follow ♻️
first of all: extremely rude that you put crabs below you on the food chain. Second: this is what happens when you’re a regulated game species. Get studied idiot.
🐠stripedbass follow ♻️
First of all: you literally ARE lower than me on the food chain, sorry you had to find out this way. Second: what the fuck is a regulated game species?
🐠stripedbass follow ♻️
Dear lord humans want to eat me

Oh holy shit was that a black rail???
And WITH THAT, Lemuria Phase 2 comes to a close! We worked ourselves from the coral reefs to this, central wetland, which is a giant inland salt marsh. As it is rather isolated and more saline the animals here are often specialized for this specific environment.
Crocs, turtles and birds are abundant and weird sirenians and stilt legged haramiyids patrol the channels.
The salt marsh is a left over from the huge lake that filled once this basin. During the Paleocene the mountains stopped growing and in the subsequent millions of years erosion filed them down, depositing the sediment in the lake that filled up that way. Only the wetland remained
One animal in here might first be confused for a aquatic snake or simple legless lizard, but a closer inspection will would reveal that you are indeed dealing with the last mosasauroid. A Cretaceous remnant
For people not aware, Lemuria is a spec evo project of the #paleostream community. It follows the evolution of organisms living on the fictional continent of Lemuria (fusion of Madagascar and India) from the Cretaceous to the Pleistocene. We are in the Oligocene #LemuriaChallenge
