This Southern Fried Cabbage Salad is a delightful combination of crispy bacon, caramelized cabbage, and savory Parmesan cheese. It's a perfect side dish or a light main course for a Southern-inspired meal.
Ingredients: 1 small head of cabbage, thinly sliced. 1/2 cup diced bacon. 1/4 cup diced onion. 2 cloves garlic, minced. 2 tablespoons olive oil. Salt and pepper to taste. 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar. 1 teaspoon sugar. 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional. 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley. 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese.
Instructions: Over medium heat, cook the bacon pieces in a large skillet until they are crispy. Get the bacon out and put it on paper towels to dry. Put the olive oil and diced onion in the same pan. It will take about 34 minutes of cooking until the onion turns clear. Put the cabbage slices and minced garlic into the pan. For about 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cabbage is soft and slightly caramelized, keep stirring it. If you want to use red pepper flakes, add them along with the apple cider vinegar. Allow the flavors to blend for another two to three minutes. Add pepper and salt to taste. Take the fried cabbage off the heat and top it with the crispy bacon, chopped parsley, and grated Parmesan cheese. To mix, toss everything together. You can eat the warm Southern Fried Cabbage Salad as a side dish or as the main course.
