The first time I met a Spartan.
Some more halo fanart I've been doing recently!
Some rambles about this batch of art: The watercolor is my first one in months, as well as my first time painting any type of armor. I also only just found out through that piece that that pen is waterproof, which was a very pleasant discovery. As for the second pic, I started just drawing my sketches in pen for the challenge of being unable to erase.
As for the art itself, I decided to draw Sam in the top of the painting using his cqc appearance from the Halo Reach movie, since I wanted him to look distinct from Chief for my first drawing of him. I put him at the top, behind the Halo, because I wanted it to symbolize/represent his ghost, Mufasa-cloud thing style, as well as being thought of by Spartans as the first death and the one showing the Covenant could die. It's hard to put in words?
The second pic was just doodling various Halo pictures I found, since I hadn't drawn any of them other than Chief before. My favorite part is probably the Jackals in the corner.
Kelly, pointing to John and Sam: Those are my best friends.
Kelly, pointing to Fred and Kurt: And those are my backup best friends for when the first ones are being idiots.
Atbnl may i pick your brain again🌹
Who do you think would be the most fitting face claim for Mr. Sam-034? Adult and/or teen
You may always pick my brain and someday I’ll answer the first ask you sent me 😂
I’ll throw this one to the larger fandom because it isn’t one I have considered before. @mrtobenamedlater @ionlymadethissoicouldleaveanask @threshergm @genesisgrey and anyone else.
Sam is dead, and I am upset because I thought I was gonna have the whole book to enjoy him, but no, he had to die halfway through, he had to die on their very first mission against the Covenant.
Gonna miss you Sam-034. The pyro boy going out in a blaze of glory. Very fitting. 😢
We don't get enough of John and Kelly mourning Sam, because they were the two closest to him. In the beginning it was always the three of them, working and learning together.
I think they do have moments together in private away from everyone else where they let their guards down and just act human for a change. They cry and mourn, doing their best to heal. Because the three are now two, and they were so young when it happened.
WHEN SAM CALLS KELLY “KELLS” IN FALL OF REACH
Halo Reloaded: Sam
The barracks, lined with neatly made beds and personal lockers, vibrated subtly with the restrained energy of children trained far beyond their years. Spartan Sam-034, a tall, solid boy of eight with a stern expression that seldom slipped, paused as he passed a particular bed. The faint sound of sniffles, almost drowned out by the methodical sounds of cadets preparing for sleep, caught his ear.
Cautiously, Sam crouched down, peering under the bed. There, curled up against the cold metal frame, was John-117. Despite being only six, John already carried the unmistakable aura of someone set apart. His small frame shook with quiet sobs, his face buried in his arms.
"John?" Sam's voice was soft but carried an authoritative edge, a result of their relentless training. "What are you doing down there?"
John stiffened, his crying stopping abruptly as he recognized the voice. He wiped his face quickly with the back of his hand, embarrassment mingling with sadness.
"Nothing," he mumbled, though his voice was thick with emotion.
Sam lay down on the floor, bringing himself eye-level with John. "Doesn't look like nothing," he said, his tone gentle. "Why are you hiding here?"
John hesitated, his blue eyes flickering away before settling back on Sam. "Nobody likes me," he confessed in a small, resigned voice. "The others... they don't talk to me. And when they do, they just yell. Because I'm the youngest."
Sam frowned slightly, considering John's words. He knew the older cadets often saw John as the easy target due to his age and size. "I talk to you," Sam pointed out. "I don’t yell."
"You're different," John said, a slight warmth creeping into his tone.
"Yeah, I am," Sam agreed with a small nod.
"And you're different too, John. That’s not bad. Being youngest means you have more time to learn, more time to get better."
John considered this, his tears subsiding as he listened to Sam’s reasoning. It was a simple logic, but one that resonated with him amidst his turmoil.
"Can I tell you a secret?" Sam continued, lowering his voice conspiratorially.John nodded, curiosity piquing his interest.
"I used to think nobody liked me either," Sam confessed, his voice a whisper.
"Because I was always the biggest, and I never needed help with the physical drills. People stayed away because they thought I didn't need them."
"But you do need friends, right?" John asked, his voice small.
"Everyone does," Sam affirmed. "Even Spartans. Maybe especially Spartans. We’re stronger together, John. You, me, all of us."
John crawled out from under the bed, his youthful face still showing traces of tears but now with a flicker of hope. "Do you really think we can be friends?" he asked, his voice hopeful.
"I know we can," Sam said, extending a hand to help John to his feet. "Come on, let's get back to bed. Tomorrow’s another day, and we better be ready for it."
