Been playing Outer Worlds yesterday and man, do I bloody love it. So let's talk;
So you have 4 weapon slots from the start that allow you to equip different weapons and change them at a moment's fly. Pretty standard stuff, similar to Borderlands. Weapons are categorized based on their ammo types, so keep that in mind. Small ammo is obviously the weakest but most abundant one, so I use it for pistols, shotguns or light machine guns. Large ammo is for sniper rifles, heavy machine guns, grenade launchers, anything that packs a punch. And then you have energy weapons, which are useful against heavily-armored enemies. Oh, and you have melee weapons too.
Armor is only the body and the helmet. There's light, medium, and heavy armor. There's also clothing but those aren't useful unless you're trying to get some Dialog stat bonuses. Light armor tends to give Science bonuses, while medium and heavy are more combat based. Armor tends to break down faster than weapons, so you'll have to repair that a lot.
Now, the weapons and armor can be modified by adding in Mods. Personally, I've had trouble trying to find mods and the ones in the stores are kinda lame. But they're actually very useful. Personally, I prefer having a plasma-based sniper rifle for fleshys and a shock-based Vermin for any robots.
I like all of them. Except for SAM because really, he's just there to help struggling players who have trouble in combat. Zero personality, just pure firepower.
Engineer girl Parvati is adorable. She's also 28 apparently so that was surprising. Her personal quest is about getting her a girlfriend which is fun, but honestly it felt really weird and pushed in. Especially considering that the two want to bang even though they just met and barely had a conversation. But I'm still supportive of her.
Idealist outcast Felix here wants to have a grand adventure. Your first meeting with him is funny and somewhat charming, and I did allow him to finish his speech. He's your thief and gives a bonus for lockpicking, so that's swell. He hits hard, and I like his quips.
Medicinal pirate Ellie is someone I don't know much about. I read the wiki and she'll have her own personal quest at some point, but early on she can be kinda boring. I look forward to what else she has.
Vicar Max is my favorite. His personal quest is engaging and felt truly important to do, and he sometimes has these anger outbursts due to it. But he's a good man, a good priest and is also your resident hacker. Plus, I like his special skill a lot. I mean, it's OP as shit.
Drunkass Nyoka is nice. I just got her so I don't know much about her yet. She drinks because she's depressed and that's really sad but it's why I enjoy having her around. Also, she fights with a custom heavy machine gun and kills anything in her path. So sweet.
Unlike previous games, the Outer Worlds isn't truly an open-world game. It's more like having several rooms with smaller worlds in them. It helps keeping everything manageable though, so I don't mind it that much. Also, the ship computer ADA is fun to talk to.
Groundbreaker is like the hub world. A bunch of shops, quests, etc., with very little threats. Framerate is a bitch due to all of the neon signs. It's a cool place to be at though.
Terra 2 is where you started at. It has several submaps in it, so it's not as small as you'd think. It's got good climate, good range of enemies, basic but fun.
Monarch is deadly all around. Everything here will try to kill you, but don't worry about it. You'll be fine. I often let my companions do the first strike via special moves and then shoot from afar. Do be careful of acids!
There are other places like the mining station on an asteroid, or a terraformed moon and they're okay. Too bad there's no major environmental differences like gravity or something.
I like the game. It's fun to play and I enjoyed it. So do try it out! If you don't like Epic Games Store, just wait for the Steam release or be a pirate. I heard Obsidian has some controversy lately so don't feel too bad about it.
