A Spencer Headcanon

Whenever Spencer manages to truly falls asleep (from utter exhaustion); no matter what time of the day or night it is, the rest of the team are as quiet as possible. They tip toe around the apartment, hiss at each other to get someone’s attention and they don’t go near the kitchen in case they set off the smoke alarm and wake Spencer up.

Spencer very rarely falls into a deep sleep. He usually only takes short naps and powers through the rest of the day on coffee alone. And because of that, the stress on his body eventually takes a toll on him and he gets so tired he just crashes where he stands (he’s lucky if he manages to find a couch before then).

And whenever this happens. No one moves him. They just pull a blanket over him, shut of the tv and just try their very best not to wake him up. Relieved that he’s finally getting the rest he so desperately needs.

Because Spencer never complains about nightmares or insomnia. He’s always everyone’s go to confidant and he’s such a calming presence that most of them end up feeling safe just by being around him. But Spencer himself keeps his secrets close to his heart and it’s hard for the others to be like him and find a way to ask him about his problems the way he does for them. So they try to do little things for Spencer instead to make sure he too gets the rest he needs. 

Like ordering take out when he’s sleeping so that they don’t burn his kitchen to the ground (someone always waits outside to get the food to make sure the delivery person doesn’t ring the doorbell by accident and wake him up). Or pull close all the curtains so that Spencer can sleep in relative darkness; just like he likes it. Or they never forget to turn on the heater even if both Ian and Tala don’t like the heat at all, but Spencer sleeps better when he’s warm, so they do it.

And when Spencer eventually wakes up, it’s like the sound just comes back on like a switch and suddenly there is screaming and shouting and plates breaking and..... Spencer briefly wonders how the hell he managed to sleep through all that chaos. But then he notices Bryan’s favorite blanket draped over his body and the curtains and the heater and he just knows. Yeah, he knows.
