The SAME Café is Denver's first non-profit restaurant and is a leader among the food justice organizations in the nation. The way they run their eating establishment is quite unique: Patrons who visit the restaurant set their own prices for the local, organically grown meals they eat. Those who can afford to pay more for their meal are encouraged to be generous. However, those who can only pay just a little are welcomed to pay what they can with no stigma or negative backlash. And then those who are unfortunately unable to pay anything at all simply volunteer an hour of service to the restaurant in return for their meal. The SAME Café will never turn away a hungry patron. And those who are unable to pay for their meals can still eat good, healthy food while being treated with the same dignity and service as paying customers. EcoJoia Co-Owner Julia attended the annual Sprout Down fund raiser this week, benefiting Sprout City Farms, at the trendy Mercury Cafe here in Denver, Colorado. The event was packed and featured food from local eateries Same Cafe and Jonesies, a silent auction of art and plants, and a live auction of a beehive and a Trek bike.

Sprout City Farms cultivates urban farms on underutilized land, rooting community farms in the city and bringing good food to neighborhoods. The organization also works with the Denver Public School system to educate children on urban farming and even incorporates the veggies grown into the school lunch programs.

It is organizations like Sprout City Farms that strengthen the Denver community and make Colorado a great place to live.
