Everyday, I wish I could do more. I volunteer at the IRC, where my clients are asylees and refugees. All I want is to know that they get the same chance here. All I want is for them to be welcomed.
And everyday I show up to my internship, I welcome them into my life and heart... and I do what it takes... my job.. to try and make sure they have an equal chance.
My internship gives me a purpose...something to live for... All I dream of is living in a country where everyone has the same chance and is treated the same. My heart may be too big and I may love too much, but my dream will always stay the same. Why do you think cultural competency means so much to me? We live in a country that needs to change. EVERYONE DESERVES TO HAVE THE SAME CHANCE regardless of race, nationality, culture, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identification, sexual orientation, etc. I know, that for now, my internship is what I can do. I am doing what I can because I wish everyone felt welcomed... and I want everyone to have the same chance.
