but childhood besties billy & argyle are constant on my mind cus why not? just giving billy someone he could trust, depend on, a same age friend, a person of comfort especially after his mom left it and who's better than the most chillest guy ever, argyle? and while at that, add a little sprinkle in the form of steve harrington, a runaway experiment who somehow managed to arrive in california (did i ever talk about experiment steve? im starting to forget shit haha)
the two besties were hanging out one day, playing their own little games nearby the beach when they saw something rustling in the bushes. now, billy aint really a coward but that doesnt mean he will step forward and check it first. it might even just some wild raccoon so argyle can do it, right?

before he could even response, the rustling from the bushes becomes even more frantic and then the next thing they knew, a boy pops out of it. the boy, who looks around their age, has shaved hair and big brown eyes, moles (or freckles) decorating his face and some parts of his visible body. he seems to be wearing a hospital gown and was barefeet but billy didnt really noticed as he blushes at the intense way those big bambi like eyes staring back at him in shocked.
he cant help but find this boy really cute and he will bring this fact to the grave, bc argyle will definitely tease him about it one day
so yeah, long story short, they freak out, steve uses his power and then they decided, hey, you wanna see and explore the outside world? so boom, kids shenanigans just them having fun while trying to hide steve and avoid billy's dad. in this au probably would add an adult figure that they can trust on (bc god these kids need em) and they can be a fucking lawyer bc someone needs to sue that fucking ass called neil bitching hargrove--
especially if that adult is a family lawyer cus im sure they would just immediately noticed that something is wrong with this kids and then once everything was safe, they adopt billy & steve and gives them a new home bc they. deserve. it.
this is also way before the canon plotline starts so idk yet how im gonna connect them. maybe the lawyer will marry susan instead so max can still be in the picture? they can have a better relationship in this scenario or just something completely never before lol
then again, this might just sit in the wips section for now (stares at the other almost finish fics from months ago)

I don't think you've sent other experiment!Steve ideas (unless the time loop fic counts?) but I'm lowkey obsessed with those types of fics, so please share if you have more!! I love lil Billy being so smitten for Steve when they find him. Adorable.
(As for the lawyer thing, have you thought about Billy having a butch aunt? I've seen the idea floating around a bit and I personally love it. She could be strong and loving and ready to whisk the kids away into safety once she finds out what's going on. She could also be "married" to Susan and be an unofficial step-mother to Max. That or I've seen fics where Billy's mom comes back to get custody of him once she has the power to and is dating/"married" to Susan as well--but idk how you feel about his mom. She's a Topic.)
