Simple drawings! Aiba manabu & Sekamuzu.
Someone made a Rei-Misa fanvid with Christina Perri’s Thousand Years, and I’m just... urgh.. screaming here.. and drowning in the feels.
Samejima Reiji’s outfits ♥
世界一難しい恋 全体的の感想-Sekaiichi Muzukashii Koi overall impressions
The interview with NTV producer, Hazeyama Yuko (also producer for Kaibutsu-kun).
- Men sympathize with him, women find him cute.
- Samejima Reiji was supposed to be a terrible man (if we think about it, he actually is! even Ohno said so), doing terrible things to people around him, saying terrible things to Misaki, but with Ohno acting him out, the audience just end up supporting him instead.
- They had to revise the script several times to reinforce Misaki’s stand in the drama. Even Koike Eiko’s character was originally inserted to make Reiji more hated, but audience inadvertently trusted him instead. The producers’ calculations went off.
- Ohno’s ability in making the audience into his allies is his terrifying charm.
Looking back at my early Sekamuzu posts, it seems that I had expected a more evil/mean Reiji, but I myself did not realize at what point I discarded that impression for him and started thinking of him as only a silly shachou with no clue about how to have a normal relationship.
The interview reminds me of when the producers explained why he was cast for the SP drama Mou Yuukai Nante Shinai. For an actor that inspires that supportive feeling in the audience, Ohno was a perfect fit.
I’ve said previously that he’ll be evoking mamabear feels and it’s true. I’m just surprised that the secretary’s role was supposed to make him hated. And them changing Misaki around is probably why I can’t really feel her until the last few episodes, and even then, just barely.
Pros:
Doesn’t change from first impression, the soundtrack’s really great, and listening to it while recalling scenes from the drama is so much fun.
Ohno’s serious work-mode Samejima-shachou is my favourite Reiji really. I wanted to see more of the Shachou who had to face off Chef Tanaka. And the moments where he doesn’t have to go for comedy (e.g: the apology conference) is just.... *sigh*... 社長、やれば出来るじゃん?
The President’s room trio. Samejima-Muraoki-Ishigami is one of the best things about this drama. Hell, I wouldn’t mind watching a drama just about Samejima-Ishigami getting up to different hijinks and Muraoki-mama cleaning up after them. Here’s to seeing more works involving Ohno-Koike-Sugimoto.
Miura Ieyasu. Kotaki Nozomu. Nozo-nii. Call him whatever, but this guy’s a comedic gem. Apparently even his role got changed a bit, but it seems to be for the better. A plus to why Sekamuzu makes for great comedy. And they were definitely correct in not letting him touch the romance part.
Cons:
The show’s formula became a bit repetitive a few episodes in, but Ohno’s acting saved it for me.
Feels like they didn’t clean up the story properly, there’s closure but the journey there wasn’t too polished. Eg: Wada still confuses the shit out of me, yet his role in moving the plot of the drama was not minor; the Shachou-secretary almost-plot twist was messy.
Ohno’s Reiji in love was cute, Haru’s Misaki was, to put it lightly, an acquired taste. But the two together does not really convince me; the chemistry’s pretty weak. Thank god their in-drama relationship itself is problematic which sort of distracts from that issue.
They’ve admitted to trying to make Misaki’s stance more stronger, but they kind of failed in the end. Which is a shame. I think Misaki makes for a good role model for women, and it’d have been nice if they could have expanded on that.
Pretty sure NTV poured quite a bit into this drama (I mean, Samejima shachou’s many outfit changes can’t be cheap) but in the end I can’t help comparing the production quality with Matsujun’s drama from TBS, where they’ve got budgets that will probably make Sekamuzu’s wardrobe expenses seem like small change. But at the same time, another NTV drama from this season, Yutori Desu ga Nanika didn’t give off the cheap atmosphere I’m getting from Sekamuzu either. It’s probably a problem of setting (or genre?), I guess.
I’m 50-50 about the President’s Office Planning Department team. They’re funny when they need to be, but only when they need to be. Feels like they could have used the cast better since there’s not too many of them in the first place. (Another thing I noticed when watching TBS 99.9 drama, even the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it extras are hilarious as fuck)
Didn’t expect my cons to be longer than pros, since I did enjoy watching this drama, second hand embarrassment and all. From a comedy POV, I think the drama did well enough, but the overall execution as a romantic comedy could be better. I wonder if it’s because Ohno’s acting, the audience’s reaction, and/or the audience’s reaction to Ohno’s acting were different from what the producer’s had in mind that some things felt a bit off .
To conclude, I’m happy for Ohno’s first attempt at romantic comedy (if Ohno had his way, we’d probably never see it), but I guess he’s better at the latter than former. It’s also amazing to see reactions from non-Arashi fans appreciating Ohno’s acting. Comparing him to Chaplin even. So it’s not just me being a biased fan.
However, I do have bigger expectations for his next acting gig. Ohno Satoshi’s doing action!!! Where previously it’s been limited to butais, I’m still pretty sure this is another thing Ohno could pull off flawlessly. Ohno said it best, to not get hurt, to not overdo it, but to still produce a good piece of work; I'm hoping that he could proceed with the filming of the movie in this manner.
